Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Wheel of Time season 2 finale.
Summary
In the Season 2 finale of The Wheel of Time, an ominous development occurs as all the Forsaken are unleashed, introducing the formidable new character Moghedien. This sets the stage for a significant future threat, as showrunner Rafe Judkins aims to captivate audiences through the intriguing and entertaining presence of these villains. Ishamael's departure is meant to leave viewers devastated, while their curiosity is piqued by the impending arrival of the new Forsaken.
Moghedien's presence signals impending trouble for the main characters in future seasons, with their victory atop the tower merely marking the start of a challenging journey. Showrunner Rafe Judkins sheds light on the significance of Moghedien's appearance in the season 2 finale of The Wheel of Time series. The finale scene exposes Ishamael's release of all the Forsaken as a precaution in case Lanfear turned against him, introducing a formidable new antagonist, Moghedien, who poses a threat in the series' upcoming episodes.
Speaking with Collider, Judkins emphasized the significance of The Wheel of Time season 2's conclusion and the implications of Moghedien's presence for season 3. The showrunner unveiled the escalating peril the world will face now that all the Forsaken have been unleashed. Check out Judkins' insights below:
Among the things I adore in the books are the Forsaken and their intriguing dynamics. They truly embody enjoyment. Sometimes, the most formidable adversaries are the ones you end up adoring the most. I anticipate that the viewers will experience a peculiar sense of devastation with the departure of Ishamael by season's end. My aim is for them to ponder, "How could any of the other Forsaken possess more allure than these two?" And then, in strides Moghedien, pointing out with utmost clarity and resounding fervor, "You better not disregard any of the Forsaken yet to come, as each one is deeply disturbed in their own way. They should each amass their own dedicated following."
What Role Will Moghedien Play In Wheel Of Time Season 3?
We are equally captivated by Laia Costa's portrayal of Moghedien in Season 3 as we were with Lanfear in Season 2. The intriguing aspect of the Forsaken characters is that they represent the face of evil yet carry out their actions from a relatable human point of view, often injecting a hint of amusement. Ideally, the Moghedien/Lanfear scene immediately conveys to the audience that our main characters are bound to face significant challenges ahead, and the victory atop the tower merely marks the commencement of an arduous journey.
The recent revelation that Ishamael released multiple Forsaken before his demise implies that Rand and his companions will be confronting numerous imminent dangers. Of all the Forsaken, Moghedien emerges as the primary adversary they will have to face, given the showcasing of her immense power in her introductory scene. Considering the official confirmation of The Wheel of Time season 3, it won't be long before the extent of the threat she presents becomes apparent.
Moghedien is not the sole Forsaken to be feared in the future. According to her claim, Ishamael has set free all the other Forsaken in preparation for a possible betrayal by Lanfear. This implies that even more formidable adversaries will soon make their appearance in the TV series. These new foes will most likely include significant figures from Robert Jordan's original book series, such as Balthamel, Aginor, and Semirhage. As more Forsaken are introduced, the challenges that Rand will face will also increase.
What further enhances the intrigue surrounding Moghedien's introduction is the fact that she does not appear until book 4, The Shadow Rising. Her presence in what is expected to be an adaptation of book 3, The Dragon Reborn, suggests that additional changes to the story will likely occur in the upcoming season of the show. However, considering that The Wheel of Time has already introduced concepts early on, this may not come as a surprise. Instead, it will keep both new viewers and book readers eagerly anticipating what season 3 has in store.
