A photo from the set of Deadpool 3 featuring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds has been edited to depict Wolverine at his accurate height. This marks Jackman's return to the iconic role after his last portrayal in the 2017 film Logan. In an exciting first, Jackman is seen sporting Wolverine's classic yellow costume, captured in set photos and videos for Deadpool 3, showcasing the character's comic book attire in all its glory as Jackman reignites his action-packed role.
On Twitter, @whoisrico took it upon themselves to enhance the authenticity of Jackman's Wolverine by accurately portraying his shorter stature as depicted in the comics.
Jackman, who is six feet two inches tall, was transformed to match Wolverine's height of five feet three inches. This adjustment allowed the actor to flawlessly embody the appearance of the character from the comics when wearing the iconic yellow costume, with Reynolds' Deadpool towering over him. Although the fan edit showcases a glimpse of how Jackman could have appeared at the accurate height for Wolverine, it is unlikely that Deadpool 3 will alter his stature.
Why Movies Always Got Wolverine's Height Wrong
The reason why Wolverine's height in the movies differs from his portrayal in the comics is quite simple - Hugh Jackman was simply the ideal choice to play the character. His performance as Wolverine has become iconic, gaining recognition and acceptance not only within the Fox X-Men universe but also in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite the noticeable difference in height, Jackman perfectly embodied the essence of the role, proving to be the perfect fit for the character.
That does not imply that Fox did not attempt to align Jackman's height with Wolverine's appearance in the comic books. In an interview with CNN in January, Jackman shared that he faced challenges regarding Wolverine's height during the audition process. He disclosed that he underwent seven auditions, and producer Tom DeSanto expressed concerns about the difference in height between Jackman and Wolverine, stating, "'I hope the fans won't have any issues because the character is supposed to be 5'5".""
Jackman revealed that during the production of the first X-Men film in 2000, the team made efforts to make him visually resemble Wolverine's height in the comics. He mentioned that he always had to remove his shoes, as per the movie's rule regarding his height as Wolverine, and emphasized that every other actor, except for children, had to be taller than him. However, Jackman mentioned that the studio abandoned these tactics after the first movie. Although Jackman will not portray Wolverine's short stature in Deadpool 3, he will proudly wear the mutant's iconic yellow X-Men costume.
