Invincible showrunner Robert Kirkman hints at the possibility of a crossover between Invincible and The Boys in the future.
Invincible and The Boys have distinct styles - one being animated and the other live-action - yet a crossover cannot be completely ruled out. Despite the complexity arising from the superheroes' origins, fans are eagerly anticipating the possibility of a confrontation or alliance between Homelander and Omni-Man.
Invincible showrunner Robert Kirkman teased the potential for a crossover between the Amazon Prime Video series and The Boys. With the second season of Invincible underway after a hiatus of two and a half years, fans are curious about the extent to which this universe will expand, including the possibility of crossovers with other superhero shows. While Kirkman did not confirm a crossover, he did acknowledge the possibility of Invincible and The Boys crossing paths in the future, without providing further information.
During New York Comic-Con on October 14th, when asked about the potential for an Invincible and The Boys crossover, Kirkman responded with a simple "We could," according to The Hollywood Handle's X account. However, Kirkman did not delve into further details as this idea remains purely hypothetical. Considering the fact that it took two and a half years for Invincible season 2 to continue after its exciting first season, it is likely that the creators are focused on avoiding such a long wait for fans once again.
One potential obstacle is that the two shows are presented in different styles, with Invincible being an animated series and The Boys being live-action. However, it is worth noting that The Boys has produced an animated show called The Boys Presents: Diabolical, suggesting that a meeting between the two may not be entirely out of the question. Both shows have garnered attention due to their unique take on the superhero genre. The Boys explores the idea that if superheroes were real, they would likely be worshipped like celebrities but would be morally corrupt behind the scenes. In contrast, Invincible highlights the notion that being a superhero would come at a significant cost, as they would inevitably lose most of their battles and put their own lives at risk.
Invincible has been previously rumored to have a crossover with Spider-Man, with reports indicating that the inclusion of Josh Keaton, the voice actor for Spider-Man in Spectacular Spider-Man, in the Invincible season 2 cast further fueled the speculation. The similarities between Mark Grayson and Peter Parker in the graphic novel justify their pairing.
A crossover with The Boys would be complex due to the contrasting nature of the superpowers in the two worlds. Unlike Invincible, the superheroes in The Boys were not born with powers but were instead modified by Compound V. Nevertheless, the contrast between these two worlds would be intriguing. Additionally, fans have expressed a strong interest in seeing Homelander and Omni-Man, both being evil supermen, together on the same screen. While they have crossed paths in gaming, fans would be thrilled to witness a clash or even a potential alliance between these two characters.
Invincible season 2 will premiere on November 3, 2023.
