Tottenham have agreed a fee with Nottingham Forest for Brennan Johnson.
The forward is now travelling to London for a medical before sealing the move before Friday's 11pm deadline.
Spurs are set to pay over £45m for Johnson, but further negotiations with Forest are necessary to determine the payment structure.
Forest is prepared to move forward with a deal for PSV midfielder Ibrahima Sangare, who is currently in London and available for a medical examination in the capital.
Forest required the funds generated from Johnson's sale to further their pursuit of Sangare, all the while ensuring adherence to Financial Fair Play regulations.
Reluctant to part ways with Johnson, Forest held firm in anticipation of an offer approaching their desired £50 million valuation.
The East Midlanders are set to replace Johnson with Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Brentford were also keen on Johnson, while Chelsea cooled their interest in recent days.
Before settling on Johnson, Spurs also explored the option of signing Barcelona's Ansu Fati, who recently completed a move to Brighton, as well as Johan Bakayoko, who ultimately decided to remain at PSV after rejecting a transfer to Brentford. This acquisition of the 22-year-old forward is intended to fill the void left by Harry Kane's departure to Bayern Munich earlier in the summer.
Spurs are keen to sign a versatile forward that can play in a variety of forward positions, rather than a traditional No 9.
Versatile Johnson would provide valuable depth
We football journalist Joe Shread:Johnson is not a direct substitute for Harry Kane, but Tottenham is okay with that.
Following Kane's departure to Bayern earlier this summer, Spurs are naturally eager to enhance their attacking options.
But the north London club are not seeking to replace the most prolific No 9 in their history with a player of a similar profile.
Instead, Spurs are seeking a versatile forward who can fulfill multiple roles within Ange Postecoglou's attacking trio, and Johnson perfectly fits the requirements.
Throughout the previous season, the Welsh international successfully adapted to different positions, including the wing, supporting the striker, and even as the central forward, thanks to Forest manager Steve Cooper frequently adjusting his tactical approach.
Johnson has consistently excelled in various attacking metrics, outperforming his teammates regardless of the role he plays, as depicted in the accompanying graphic.
Should Johnson make the move from the East Midlands to Spurs, he will have the opportunity to rival Dejan Kulusevski on the right wing, Heung-Min Son on the left wing, and Richarlison in the central position.
