Millie Bobby Brown almost lost her engagement ring when Jake Bongiovi proposed to her while they were diving. The 20-year-old Stranger Things actress shared this exciting story during her interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She revealed that diving has been a special activity that has brought them closer together as a couple. On the day of the proposal, 21-year-old Bongiovi surprised Brown with an early morning dive at one of their favorite spots.
"We went underwater, many meters down," Brown excitedly shared with host Jimmy Fallon. "He handed me a shell, and when I flipped it over, I saw a ring."
She then playfully imitated Bongiovi's muffled underwater speech, explaining her response. "He signaled 'up' by raising his thumb," she demonstrated. "So technically, that meant 'No' to the proposal and 'Yes' to wanting to resurface."
Brown had to find another way to say yes, which wasn't very exciting, but they still got really excited about the special moment.
"So, he puts the ring on my finger, and when I went to show him, the ring fell off so quickly, it was like a scene from a movie," she explained. "Jake dove in to grab it, even though the diver warned him not to dive too deep because it could be dangerous."

Brown remembered the time Bongiovi made a "cinematic grab" to save the ring. She excitedly shared, "He opens his hand and he saved the ring. It truly reflects his character, and I know we will always support each other. If anyone falters, we've got each other's backs."
When Bongiovi sought Brown's mother's approval, she adamantly refused to let him take the ring underwater for the proposal. She was worried he might drop it. However, the actual ring was safely presented to Brown after their dive.
"When we boarded the boat, he handed me my mom's ring and mentioned he got it from my parents," shared the Godzilla King of Monsters star. "It was a magical moment, with his parents present, even though we looked a bit disheveled after the dive."
The couple, who initially connected on social media, made their engagement public in April 2023. (Bongiovi is the son of Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley.)
Millie and Jake are thrilled and excited that they will be together forever, according to a source who spoke exclusively to We in September 2023.
Brown, who has faced some backlash for getting engaged at a young age, shared with Glamour in October 2023 that the couple had positive role models for loving relationships in their lives. She explained that they both had a strong desire for a committed relationship, which led to their decision to get engaged.
