Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has revealed his past struggles with cocaine and oxycodone addiction, confessing to spending $500K to support his drug habit.
“When you think of that number, when you hear that number, that’s a good college fund right there,” the 41-year-old Jersey Shore star disclosed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight published on Monday, November 27th. “I gotta just be accountable and be like, ‘Yeah, that happened.’ I was wild. I was careless. I was reckless, and I fell prey to drug addiction.”
Sorrentino is set to release his new memoir, Reality Check: Making the Best of The Situation — How I Overcame Addiction, Loss, and Prison on December 19. Despite his reality TV success and lucrative endorsements, he faced legal trouble and served eight months in prison in 2019 for tax evasion related to his earnings.
Sorrentino remembers how becoming wealthy led him down a dangerous path.
"As a young and reckless kid, it was difficult to resist the temptations that came with millions of dollars, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and adoring fans," he said. "It was a challenge to rein in the excessive lifestyle. This wasn't just my struggle, but a common issue in the world of celebrities and the entertainment industry."
Sorrentino admitted that his addiction had spiraled out of control, confessing, "I was into everything. I carried a Louis Vuitton bag with me at all times, filled with hundreds of Roxicet, Percocets, Xanax, Valium, and occasionally weed and cocaine, although I knew better than to bring those on a plane."
Sorrentino discussed the impact of his drug addiction in May 2018, acknowledging that it had led him down a destructive path of experimentation, partying, and poor decision-making. He emphasized that addiction affected every aspect of his life, from his physical well-being to his relationships, often without him even realizing it.

Sorrentino completed a rehabilitation program in 2012, but experienced a relapse. Finally, he was able to turn his life around when he sought treatment for his addiction for the second time three years later.
"In 2015, when I finally went to rehab, that was definitely my lowest point. But the absolute lowest was just a day or so before that, when I did something I never thought I would do," he recalled. "I ended up trying a drug that I never imagined I'd try. A drug that has fatal consequences for most people. A drug that many never recover from. A drug that I had sworn to myself I'd never touch, one that I considered dirty. It was heroin."

Sorrentino has been sober for eight years now and attributes his turnaround to the support of his wife, Lauren Sorrentino, who is currently expecting their third child, and his mother, Linda Sorrentino.
“I was struggling with depression, anxiety, and self-doubt,” he admitted. “I had lost faith in myself and just wanted to break free from that mental state.”
