Adam Levine was surprised when he saw Mick Jagger's dance moves that inspired a Maroon 5 song.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, April 10, the 45-year-old singer shared his reaction to a recent video of 80-year-old Jagger dancing in a bar to a version of Maroon 5's hit "Moves like Jagger" performed by the band Splash. Jagger, who shared the clip on Instagram on March 27, danced enthusiastically with a smile on his face.

"I never imagined I would be in a bar band covering “Moves Like Jagger” more than I ever have in my life," Levine shared with host Jimmy Fallon after watching the clip. He expressed how surreal and bizarre it felt, questioning how such a moment was possible even after so many years.

Levine also mentioned that only a few individuals had sent him the clip. Fallon, who had considered sharing it with Levine, assumed that there were already numerous messages flooding in. "Surprisingly, only my mom and one of my friends sent me the video," Levine revealed. He was surprised that more people hadn't shared it with him.

Levine and Fallon talked about how the song originated from an idea by Selena Gomez’s boyfriend, Benny Blanco, and producer Shellback. According to Levine, the initial concept for the song revolved around the phrase "He got the moves like Jagger," intended for a female artist to sing. However, Levine suggested the idea of singing "I have moves like Jagger" instead, which ended up being the final version of the song.

Levine’s contribution not only got him a writing credit on the song but also played a part in making the track one of the top-selling digital singles of 2011. “Moves Like Jagger” was featured on the band's third studio album, Hands All Over, released in 2010. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and has been certified diamond by the RIAA.

During his recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Levine revealed that his band is currently in the process of creating new music. He enthusiastically mentioned, "It's on its way!" Additionally, after a long period of about 13 years, he has made the decision to take control of the songwriting aspect once again.

Levine emphasized the importance of ensuring that all song ideas originate from either himself or the band members. He clarified, "We won't be collaborating with other songwriters. The creative ideas will solely stem from the core of Maroon 5."

"I'm really looking forward to how [the new music] will sound, it reminds me of our early days," he shared enthusiastically. "I'm thrilled about the current progress."

The last Maroon 5 album that didn't have many other songwriters was It Won't Be Soon Before Long from 2007. Their latest album, Jordi from 2021, included a collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion on the track "Beautiful Mistakes."
