Meryl Streep and her husband Don Gummer have been living apart in recent years.
The news was confirmed by a representative for Streep in a statement to People on Saturday.
A representative for Streep confirmed that Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for over 6 years, stating that while they still hold affection for one another, they have decided to lead separate lives. CNN has contacted the actors' publicist for further statements.
The three-time Academy Award winner, along with Gummer, a sculptor, initially tied the knot in 1978. Their 45th wedding anniversary was just celebrated last month.
Through the years, Streep and Gummer were captured in photographs attending various events, yet they predominantly maintained a private stance when it came to their personal lives and evaded media attention.
"There is no set path to raising a family; it is always a complex negotiation," Streep told Vogue in 2002. "However, I have a deep desire to pursue my professional career while also nurturing strong bonds of love in my life. I cannot fathom sacrificing one for the other."
In 2012, during her acceptance speech for the Best Actress Oscar for her role in "The Iron Lady," Streep honored Gummer.
"Initially, I would like to express my gratitude towards Don. Thanking him during the conclusion of my speech will signify his importance, as they will accompany his departure with appropriate music. I deeply acknowledge him for providing me with everything that I cherish the most in our shared lives," Streep conveyed during that moment.
Presently, they have become parents to four individuals who have now reached adulthood. Their offspring consist of a son named Henry, along with three daughters named Mamie, Grace, and Louisa.
