While Kirsten Lepore, the showrunner of I Am Groot, is enthusiastic about the prospect of participating in a live-action Guardians of the Galaxy endeavor, she also emphasizes her unwavering commitment to the world of animation.

Lepore's involvement in the spinoff and her collaboration with James Gunn during the first season could provide her with an advantage in comprehending the team's characters and mindset.

Although fans may desire additional content from the franchise, it is improbable for a new director to recreate the exceptional chemistry and rapport that Gunn shared with the cast.

The showrunner of the Guardians of the Galaxy animated spinoff series I Am Groot, Kirsten Lepore, has addressed the notion of potentially working on future live-action Guardians of the Galaxy films following James Gunn’s new role as the head of DC Studios. Lepore’s involvement has generated speculation due to indications from the post-credit scene of the third film suggesting that certain characters may make a comeback for another thrilling journey.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director discussed her animated show's second season, which focuses on the character baby Groot. During the interview, she expressed her thoughts on potentially working in live-action and reiterated her dedication to animation. "Yeah, I'm definitely open to it," Lepore shared when asked about live-action opportunities. She explained that in the past, she was eager to transition into live-action, but now she feels more content and fulfilled in the world of animation. "I love animation so much, and I feel like I have a deeper understanding of what I bring to it. Directing animation requires a specific skill set, and after years of doing it, I feel very comfortable and confident in that field. I genuinely enjoy working in animation and could happily continue doing so forever. However, I am also very curious about exploring the realm of live-action."

If there is another Guardians of the Galaxy project in the works, Lepore's experience working on the spinoff, particularly alongside Gunn in the first season, could give her an advantage in understanding the characters and mindset behind the team. Although it is widely accepted that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 demonstrated how to conclude a trilogy, it does not necessarily prevent the franchise from starting a new overarching storyline. Ultimately, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended with the promise of Star-Lord's return.

While there are certainly fans who eagerly await more from the franchise, one of the main reasons the films were successful was due to the excellent on-screen chemistry of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast, including Gunn. The director had a special and outstanding relationship with most of the stars, which brought out the best in the team. While it would be enjoyable to see these beloved characters embark on new adventures with a different directorial vision, it will never quite be the same.

The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is now available for streaming on Disney Plus.
