Matthew Perry was discovered unconscious in a separate jacuzzi by emergency responders who were summoned to his residence on Saturday. According to a spokesperson from the Los Angeles Fire Department, a bystander had managed to lift the man's head above the water and bring him to the side before firefighters took him out of the jacuzzi upon reaching the scene. Tragically, a swift medical evaluation determined that the man had already passed away before the arrival of the first responders.
Perry was 54.
The circumstances surrounding the actors death are being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, LAFD said.
The medical examiners office informed CNN on Sunday that an autopsy has been carried out, but examiners are still awaiting the results of toxicology reports to ascertain the cause of Perry's death. Completion of these reports may take several weeks. According to a law enforcement source, there is no suspicion of foul play.
On Saturday night, Perry's parents, John Bennett Perry and Suzanne Morrison, along with his step-father, Keith Morrison from "Dateline," were spotted arriving at the actor's residence amidst the police presence. The family of Perry expressed profound sadness over the devastating death of their cherished son and brother in a statement to People magazine.
"Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend," the statement said. "You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love."
