In Modern Warfare 2, the Gunsmith system has undergone a significant revamp, offering players the ability to customize attachments and access a wide variety of weapons. However, navigating through the extensive array of options can be a challenge for many players, as they may feel unsure about how to effectively utilize the system to create their desired loadout and optimize their weapon choices.
What is the Gunsmith System in Modern Warfare 2?
The Gunsmith system is a submenu that allows players to unlock weapon attachments, customize their weapons, and create their optimal loadout. This submenu becomes available at rank 4, but it does not automatically unlock attachments. Additionally, players can modify all weapons in Modern Warfare 2 using the Gunsmith, with the exception of certain secondary weapons.
The Gunsmith system classifies weapons into platforms, meaning that when players unlock a weapon in MW2, they are actually unlocking a whole platform. Each platform within the Gunsmith system has multiple Receivers, which are essentially different guns. Once a platform is unlocked, players can interchange the receiver in three or four different ways to unlock another weapon from a new category. To unlock a specific platform, players need to use their player level to unlock the first gun within that platform. The other weapons in that platform can be unlocked by leveling up the initially unlocked weapon, which also grants access to its corresponding receivers.
Here's a helpful example to aid player understanding: The M4 weapons platform encompasses 5 receivers - the M16 assault rifle, the 556 Icarus, the FSS Hurricane SMG, the FTAC Recon battle rifle, and the base M4 assault rifle. Even though these weapons fall into different categories in MW2, they are part of the same platform. Consequently, unlocking the base M4 assault rifle also unlocks the other 4 receivers on the platform. As players level up, additional attachments become accessible.
Once players unlock attachments on the M4 platform, they can utilize them across all the weapons on the platform. This removes the need to repetitively unlock attachments while leveling new guns. The available attachments for players to unlock include magazines, barrels, stocks, rear grips, under barrels, and ammunition.
This new platform enables players to unlock a diverse range of weapons by leveling up specific ones, thereby obtaining their receivers and attachments.

As a Gen Z netizen, I am excited about the new Gunsmith system in Modern Warfare 2. It offers a lot of customization options for weapons, allowing players to create their own unique loadouts. I think this will add a lot of depth to the game and make it more enjoyable.
I also appreciate that the Gunsmith system is relatively easy to use. It is well-organized and straightforward, making it easy to find the attachments you want. Overall, I think the Gunsmith system is a great addition to Modern Warfare 2 and I can't wait to experiment with all the different options.
