Mauga is an offensive tank in Overwatch 2 with a unique ability to heal his teammates. Equipped with two powerful miniguns, Mauga excels in dealing high amounts of damage but is vulnerable to crowd control abilities. With careful timing and positioning, Mauga can dominate enemy tanks. Check out our Overwatch 2 tank tier list, DPS tier list, and support tier list to see where Mauga ranks among other heroes.

Mauga overview

Mauga wields two deadly miniguns - one that sets foes ablaze and another that inflicts critical damage on ignited enemies. Additionally, he possesses a charging ability that forcefully pushes aside adversaries, culminating in a powerful stomp that knocks them down upon landing. Furthermore, Mauga's Cardiac Overdrive ability creates a restorative zone, wherein both he and his teammates can replenish their health by dealing damage. As for his ultimate, Cage Fight, it erects a protective barrier, enclosing nearby enemies within an arena, rendering them unable to escape.

Mastering Overwatch 2: A Comprehensive Mauga Hero Guide

Mauga excels in close-quarters combat, making him a formidable presence on the battlefield. His ability to deploy a barrier that ensnares both himself and his adversaries is a game-changer. Furthermore, while inside this barrier, Mauga enjoys the advantage of unlimited ammunition.

When engaging the enemy team, Mauga's dual miniguns unleash a devastating onslaught of firepower. To maximize their effectiveness, it is recommended to first utilize the left incendiary gun to set targets ablaze before delivering critical damage with the right. It is worth noting that both guns draw from the same ammo pool, so firing them simultaneously will rapidly deplete ammunition. Additionally, it takes time to build up the bonus critical damage, which is crucial as it deals more harm and boosts temporary health.

Charge!

Overrun is an excellent strategy to initiate a team fight, but caution must be exercised to avoid running straight into death. Although Mauga is invincible while charging, he still takes damage. If the opposing team is prepared and ready to attack, charging towards them will only result in being sent back to the spawn room. The charge will automatically stop after covering a certain distance, but it can also be manually triggered to hit a specific target. Furthermore, the charge can be canceled if it appears necessary to modify your approach. It may take a few matches to become accustomed to aiming the stomp, but it is advisable to target a vulnerable hero, such as a support or long-range damage hero. The stomp will lift them into the air and stun them, allowing you to easily eliminate them with the miniguns.

Mauga's Cage Fight ultimate is undoubtedly the most exceptional ability in his arsenal, offering the potential for team kills with every use. When activated, it generates a protective circular shield around Mauga, imprisoning enemies within its boundaries. This formidable barrier prohibits enemies from movement or shooting, forcing them to inflict damage in order to break free. While you and your teammates can freely fire through the shield, rendering anyone caught inside defenseless, Mauga is unable to leave the arena until the ultimate concludes or you cancel it. Consequently, it is crucial to prioritize both survival and dealing damage. During the ultimate, you benefit from unlimited ammo, so ensure that your shots never cease. It is advantageous to wait until your Cardiac Overdrive ability is off cooldown, as it proves rather useful during the ultimate.

Other Mauga tips

Due to the shared ammo pool, simultaneously firing the miniguns significantly depletes your ammunition at a faster rate. Consequently, they must be reloaded simultaneously as well.

You can trigger the Overrun ability early and cancel it to prompt the enemy team to use their abilities. This way, you can avoid running into danger. To ensure Mauga's health stays full, make sure to maximize Cardiac Overdrive and utilize his passive, as he lacks shields or armor, causing his health to drain quickly.

The spreading of the miniguns worsens considerably with distance and slightly when firing them simultaneously. It is more advantageous for your teammates to shoot from outside of Cage Fight's shields, where the enemy cannot reach them.

Editor's P/S

Mauga, the fierce and intimidating offense tank in Overwatch 2, has quickly become one of my favorite heroes to play. With his dual miniguns and powerful abilities, Mauga brings a unique blend of damage and utility to the battlefield.

One of the things I love most about Mauga is his ability to dominate enemy tanks. With his high damage output and crowd control abilities, Mauga can easily take down even the most well-protected tanks. I've had countless matches where I've been able to single-handedly take out the enemy tank line, allowing my team to push through and secure the objective.

Another thing I appreciate about Mauga is his versatility. He can be played in a variety of ways, depending on the situation. If the enemy team is running a lot of crowd control, I'll often focus on using my Overrun ability to disrupt their formation and create space for my team. If the enemy team is more spread out, I'll use my Volatile Chaingun to deal critical damage to multiple targets at once.
