In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, the never-ending heretic forces can easily overwhelm players. However, players often overlook a powerful yet subtle mechanic that can help thin down the enemy waves: Coherency. It may not be as obvious as lasgun shots or grenades, but it is crucial nonetheless.
Maintaining Coherency should be the top priority for all players, especially in higher difficulties. While not complicated, there are a few key points to remember. Here is a clearer explanation of what Coherency is and how it benefits the entire team.
Darktide: Coherency Explained
Coherency in the game refers to a passive aura that detects the presence of nearby allies. When a player enters this aura, the Toughness of all squad members within its radius passively regenerates. This regeneration effect becomes more powerful with an increase in the number of nearby players.
Coherency offers more than just Toughness regeneration. Depending on the skills possessed by players, they can also benefit from increased ranged damage, increased Toughness damage reduction, and increased Suppression resistance. It is important for premade teams to coordinate and choose the most suitable bonuses to avoid conflicting skills, as these buffs do not stack on top of each other.
In addition to dedicated Aura skills that can be unlocked as early as level 6, each class also possesses a selection of extra skills that amplify the effects of Coherency auras. These supplementary skills include:
Close Order Drill (Veteran) - Up to 33% reduced Toughness damage taken
Shield of Contempt (Zealot) - Players in Coherency gain +75% damage reduction when struck
Bruiser (Ogryn) - Decreases the cooldown of Combat Ability when players within Coherency eliminate Elites
Unlucky For Some (Psyker) - Whenever a companion within Coherency is incapacitated, all remaining allies regenerate +50% Toughness
In the midst of battle, these subtle enhancements may go unnoticed, but they ultimately enhance the overall effectiveness of every player in the squad. Take, for instance, the Zealot's Shield of Contempt aura, which allows the squad to navigate through blazing infernos while minimizing the damage taken. Additionally, the Ogryn's Bruiser reduces the cooldown time for Combat Abilities, significantly improving the chances of survival against formidable mini-bosses and waves of special enemies.
Darktide can be played on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
