Choosing to play as a Zealot in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide often comes down to personal preference. While some players opt for the strength and durability of the Ogryn on the frontline, others lean towards the damage-dealing abilities of the Veteran. The Zealot, however, offers a unique combination of both these classes as an indoctrinated servant of the Emperor.
To best serve the team, players must acquire the most advantageous talents available in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. While improved weapons and gear certainly have their merits, it is the transformative power of talents that can truly revolutionize the gameplay experience for the character.
Updated on October 9th, 2023 by Hodey Johns: Path #13 has significantly revamped the Zealot, along with all the other operatives. Not only that, but gameplay, combat, and leveling have also undergone many changes. These alterations have affected the worth and effectiveness of various weapons and abilities, completely transforming the landscape. However, the most substantial transformation has occurred in the talent system, superseding the old feats. Ranking talents is no easy task, as different builds will have different priorities. Opting for the "best" talents may result in an inconsistent character, as some talents work well together. Nevertheless, it is worth exploring the talents that have proven most successful and have helped the Zealot gain popularity within a party.
Best Ability Talent
Best Choice | Description |
Chorus of Spiritual Fortitude | Wield a holy relic that releases pulses of energy every 0.8 seconds. While channeling, Allies in Coherency have Stun immunity and Invulnerability. Each pulse Replenishes 45% Toughness to Allies in Coherency. If the Ally is at full Toughness they instead gain 20 Max Toughness up to a total of 100. Base cooldown 60 seconds. |
Other Choices | Description |
Fury of the Faithful | Dash forward, Replenishing 50% Toughness & gaining 20% Attack Speed for 10 seconds. The Zealot's next Melee Hit gains 25% damage and is guaranteed to be a Critical Hit. Base cooldown 30 seconds. |
Shroudfield | Enter Stealth for 3 seconds. While in Stealth gain 20% Movement Speed, 100% Backstab Damage, 100% Finesse Damage, and 100% Critical Chance. Base cooldown 30 seconds. |
The Chorus of Spiritual Fortitude ability in the game surpasses the best ranged weapons and grants invincibility to the entire squad through a channeled ability. Along with becoming invulnerable, the team gains additional Toughness, strengthening the squad for gith when the effects of Chorus of Spiritual Fortitude wear off.
Fury of the Faithful is an improved version of the standard Chastise the Wicked ability and proves beneficial for melee players who wish to strengthen themselves before leading the charge on the frontlines. Shroudfield provides the often overlooked advantage of Stealth, allowing players to defensively avoid unwanted attention, but it is primarily designed for single-target encounters.
Best Blitz Talent
Best Choice | Description |
Immolation Grenade | Throw a grenade that leaves a layer of flaming liquid, Burning and Staggering enemies, and barring their path. Most effective against Unarmoured Enemies. |
Other Choices | Description |
Stunstorm Grenade | Throw a grenade that stuns all Enemies within its blast radius. |
Blades of Faith | Throw a consecrated knife to deal high Damage to a Single Enemy. Very effective against most Enemies; less effective versus Carapace Armour. Quick Throw, killing Elite and Special Enemies in Melee replenishes one knife, and ammo boxes replenish knives. |
When dealing with groups of enemies, deciding between Immolation Grenade and Stunstorm Grenade can be quite tricky. However, Immolation Grenade holds a slight advantage when used by an expert player. Its ability to obstruct a pathway for a certain duration enables operatives to exercise superior control over the battlefield.
However, if you're looking to specialize in single-target combat, Blades of Faith can be an invaluable asset. This exceptional melee weapon allows you to acquire consecrated knives with unwavering reliability. It's important to note, however, that Carapace Armour serves as a direct countermeasure against these knives. Therefore, it's advisable to strategically employ them against specific targets rather than haphazardly against anyone and everyone.
Best Aura Talent
Best Choice | Description |
Beacon of Purity | Heal 1.5 Corruption from the current Wound for the Zealot and Allies in Coherency every 1 second. |
Other Choices | Description |
Benediction | +15% Toughness Damage Reduction for the Zealot and Allies in Coherency. |
Loner | The Zealot always counts as being in at least two Coherency. |
Healing in the game is intentionally limited due to the challenging level design that progressively wears down the team. Although the healing provided by Beacon of Purity may be minimal, it still serves its purpose. Furthermore, the healing effect becomes more potent as the team accumulates more Wounds, ensuring that healing is available when it is most needed. Beacon of Purity significantly impacts the dynamics of the game.
There is a valid argument for the use of Loner, as it improves the effectiveness of other skills and talents that rely on having Allies in Coherency. However, opting for Loner requires sacrificing the Aura slot. Alternatively, Benediction can be utilized to enhance the team's resilience, allowing them to withstand more damage. To maximize the benefits of any Aura, it is advisable to utilize the best available curios.
Best Keystone Talent
Best Choice | Description |
Blazing Piety | +15% Critical Hit Chance for 8 seconds when in Fury. Fury is triggered when 25 Enemies have died within 25 meters. |
Other Choices | Description |
Martyrdom | Each missing Wound grants +8% Melee Damage, up to 9 missing Wounds. |
Inexorable Justice | Moving grants the Zealot Momentum (Stacks 20 times). When the Zealot hits an Enemy, spend all Momentum, gaining 1% Melee Attack Speed, 1% Ranged Attack Speed, and 1% Damage per Stack. Lasts 8 seconds. |
In certain groups, Blazing Piety can be active nearly continuously. As the enemy groups diminish rapidly, Fury grants the operative a valuable critical hit chance boost. Combine this with exceptional weapon characteristics, and the Zealot is transformed into a formidable critical hit generator.
Martyrdom is a beneficial choice for individuals with a preference for close combat weapons as it provides additional damage for every Wound inflicted. The intensity of the damage increases with the severity of the injuries, making it a formidable option for those who believe that a strong offense is the best defense. On the other hand, the only drawback of Inexorable Justice is its limited usage due to the depletion of Momentum with each strike.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is currently accessible for both PC and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
