Assassin's Creed Mirage aims to replicate the stealth-focused gameplay of the franchise's early installments and accomplishes this through various means. One notable aspect is the introduction of the Notoriety mechanic, which effectively keeps players on their toes. Any unlawful actions committed by the player, such as public assassinations or theft, will result in an increase in their Notoriety.
Notoriety is categorized into four levels, each progressively more severe and attracting stronger adversaries. As a player's Notoriety level rises, it becomes increasingly challenging to navigate the city undetected, as both regular citizens and guards will become aware of Basim's presence. However, players will be relieved to know that there are multiple strategies available to decrease Notoriety once it has been acquired.
Bribe Munadi
Throughout Baghdad, players may notice Munadi, ancient journalists who share the latest gossip and rumors with the public. Instead of religious teachings, they focus on current affairs to cater to the largely illiterate population. These Munadi play a crucial role in swaying Notoriety, as they often alert the guards of Basim's presence when the public rushes to inform them.
To bribe a Munadi, players need a Power Favor Token, which can typically be obtained by pickpocketing individuals. However, getting caught will further increase the player's Notoriety level. Bribing a Munadi is the most effective method as it completely resets Basim's Notoriety level. Similarly, Merchant Tokens can be used to lower prices, and Scholar tokens can be used to bribe musicians and performers, distracting the guards.
Take Down Wanted Posters
Players can decrease their Notoriety level by removing wanted posters found in the streets. These posters can be easily identified on the map and compass by the same newspaper icon as the Munadi. It is common to find citizens gathered around these posters, but removing them will not raise any suspicions or prompt them to alert the guards.
While taking down wanted posters will only lower the player's Notoriety level by 1, it may require a few attempts to significantly reduce it to a safe level. This approach is particularly useful for minor offenses or when aiming to bring down a higher Notoriety level to a manageable one. It is important to note that citizens might recognize Basim from the posters and attempt to report him before the posters are removed.
Equip The Zanj Uprising Outfit
To further prevent unwanted attention, players can equip the Zanj Uprising Outfit found in Basim's inventory. Obtaining this outfit involves looting the chest located in Harbiya's Upper Harbor, which is conveniently visited during the Harbormaster Case.
Equipping this outfit will decrease the Notoriety gained from engaging in illegal activities by 20%. By visiting a Tailor, players can upgrade the outfit to further reduce Notoriety by 30% and eventually 40%. However, it is important to note that the outfit does not eliminate Notoriety once it has been acquired. Players will still need to remove Wanted Posters or bribe a Munadi to rid themselves of any gained Notoriety.
Ubisoft's renowned stealth series, Assassin's Creed, is set to make a return with Assassin's Creed: Mirage. This highly anticipated installment is scheduled to release in 2023 and will transport players to 9th century Baghdad. Unlike its recent counterparts, Mirage will veer away from the role-playing elements and embrace a more action-adventure approach, harkening back to the franchise's roots.
