The Goldenloop update, released years after Deathloop's initial launch, brought a range of exciting enhancements to the game. Available for free to all players, it introduced new content, including upgrades for Juliana's Masquerade slab and the introduction of a new enemy type. Additionally, the update included new trophies and achievements to keep players engaged. One notable addition was the Garbage Day trophy, which added to the satisfaction of completing the game 100%. Players were challenged to eliminate a formidable boss-like enemy and obtain his Fugue slab.

The Fugue slab possesses the unique ability to disorient enemies, rendering them unable to see or hear. This makes it an excellent choice for stealth gameplay, particularly when combined with the Nexus slab, which can apply its effects to nearby enemies. Thus, players were encouraged to seek out the Garbage Collector to acquire this powerful ability, regardless of their interest in obtaining the Garbage Day trophy.

How To Unlock the Garbage Day Trophy

To unlock the Garbage Day trophy, players must kill the boss-like character called the Garbage Collector and collect his Fugue Slab. The Garbage Collector, whose real name is Gabe Chadjavich, can be found in Karl's Bay during the Afternoon. He resides in a dangerous lair, so players should only enter if they are well-equipped with at least purple trinkets. When leaving the tunnels, players should stick to the right side near the cliffs as if they were heading to kill Harriet. Along the way, they will come across some black-and-white panels. By looking to the left, they will find a doorway near a large construction site. If it is the player's first time in the area, the door will be locked. However, reading the note on it and returning the next afternoon will unlock it.

Once inside Gabe's lair, players will find him in a smaller room. There is a door on the right side that players can enter, but caution is advised. Opening it without disarming a mine attached to the glass will alert the Collector and put players at a disadvantage in the ensuing fight.

When confronted directly, he poses a formidable challenge. Multiple Eternalists will join his side, his armor is highly resistant to most forms of damage, and automated turrets will activate, creating a daunting experience for players who have not yet mastered their abilities. Utilizing grenades and the Nexus slab can help make the situation more manageable, but it is strongly recommended to rely on stealth. By hacking the distractions in his room, throwing bottles to divert his attention, and utilizing the Aether slab, players can successfully approach him for a swift machete kill. Upon defeating him, players should seize the Fugue slab that he drops in order to unlock the trophy.

How to Skip the Garbage Collector Fight

Players struggling to defeat Gabe in Arkane Studios' games can explore a different approach to combat. Instead of engaging in direct confrontation, they can take advantage of Gabe's absence from his base during the morning and evening. By visiting Fristad Rock at Noon, players can infiltrate the underground bar in the area where Gabe is known to frequent. Here, he is considerably easier to defeat, as he has shed his armor and helmet, opting instead for a humble pair of underpants. Players can identify him by his distinctive singing, though they may need to silence it amidst the sound of gunfire.

Killing the garbage collector earlier in the day will not immediately grant players the Fugue slab. However, they will still need to revisit Karl's Bay during the afternoon, locate the safe on the lower floor near a bed in the locked room's rear, and unlock it to gain access to the slab and unlock the Garbage Day trophy.

Deathloop can be played on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
