Mary's Journey Continues: Young Sheldon Season 7 Teaser Reveals Challenges Ahead

Join Mary as she faces new obstacles and adventures in the upcoming season of Young Sheldon.

Mary will have to get used to her new life as she and Sheldon head back to Texas in season 7 of Young Sheldon. The show has kept the Coopers apart since the season 6 finale, with George and the family handling the aftermath of a tornado while Mary watches over Sheldon in Germany for his summer study program. But soon, the family will be back together, leading to both enjoyable and challenging experiences for the Coopers.

In a recent interview with TVLine, co-showrunner Steve Holland shared some details about Mary's storyline after returning from Germany in Young Sheldon season 7, titled "Ants on a Log and a Cheating Winker," premiering on March 7. According to Holland, Mary will be facing some challenges as she tries to find her place back in Texas.

After coming back, Mary realizes that things are not falling apart at home as she had expected. She is still the mother of the house and definitely needed, but she can't help feeling a bit out of place. She is trying to navigate through this new dynamic where she is not as crucial as she thought she would be.

With only 11 episodes left in Young Sheldon's final season, the focus will likely shift to the Cooper family as a whole and their individual storylines. The remaining episodes will delve deeper into their lives and relationships.

The upcoming spinoff featuring Mandy and Georgie will continue the Coopers' story in Texas. While technically a continuation of Young Sheldon, it has not been confirmed if any other main cast members will join Montana Jordan and Emily Osment in the new show.

If the creators of the spinoff stay true to the established storyline, Mary should be a part of Georgie and Mandy's new series. As per The Big Bang Theory, Mary takes on the role of head of the family after George's passing, which is set to happen in upcoming episodes of Young Sheldon. It would be unrealistic for Georgie to move away from his family after the original show ends, so at the very least, Mary and Missy should make a cameo appearance in the spinoff.

If CBS decides not to bring back Mary in the Young Sheldon spinoff, they should consider leaving the character in a way that hints at her eventually becoming Laurie Metcalf's older version in The Big Bang Theory. While Zoe Perry's portrayal shares some similarities with the character, there are still noticeable differences between the younger and older versions. It would be helpful if Young Sheldon addresses how she eventually returns to church after her disillusionment in season 5.

Young Sheldon Season 7 airs new episodes every Thursday at 8pm ET on CBS.
