Witnessing Peter's transformation from a cheerful to a hateful demeanor will be particularly exhilarating in the game. This transformation will become even more pronounced and relatable if certain events occur that intensify his newfound hatred as the wall-crawler.
However, despite the symbiote's significant impact on Peter, another compelling challenge awaits Lowenthal in the form of Doctor Octopus. Marvel's Spider-Man has established Doctor Octopus as a strong character, but in Dan Slott's The Superior Spider-Man, Otto swaps minds with Peter and leaves him to die in his original body, presenting an even greater obstacle for Lowenthal.
Otto then transforms into Spider-Man and subsequently masquerades as Peter as well. In Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Lowenthal manages to portray a menacing character, but if he were to essentially portray Otto within Peter's body, it would be a whole new achievement. It would be captivating to observe how this could alter Peter's demeanor, his speech when alone versus when interacting with others, who he might trust with his secret, and how the internal struggle could be visually represented in-game as Peter's consciousness remains in flux between synapses.
It would be fascinating to see Otto, once a murderous criminal, challenged with the responsibility of being a do-gooder. If he empathized with Peter in this way, it could create an engaging narrative thread for Insomniac to explore. It would be especially impactful if Otto had to come face-to-face with the fact that he was responsible for Aunt May's death and find a way to reconcile with that through Peter. Insomniac could further expand on this arc if they wanted to, as Marvel's Spider-Man's original continuity offers a wealth of potential for its own Superior Spider-Man storyline. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be launching exclusively for PlayStation 5 on October 20.
