Marvel's Echo: A New Trailer Reveals Exciting Details

Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez is going to war in a new trailer for Marvel's Echo. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe show acts as a spinoff to 2021's Hawkeye, following the eponymous character as she returns to her hometown to confront some of the demons of her past while also struggling to leave behind her life in Wilson Fisk's crime organization. Alongside Cox, the Echo cast will feature the returns of fellow MCU stars Vincent D'Onofrio as Fisk/Kingpin, Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Zahn McClarnon as Maya's father, William.

Just under a month ahead of its original planned release, Marvel has released a new Echo trailer. The video, as seen above, reveals that the MCU show is now set to premiere on both Disney+ and Hulu on Tuesday, January 9 at 6 p.m. PST, a full day earlier than originally scheduled. The video also offers a further look at the bloody violence to come from the show and another look at Maya's fight against Cox's Daredevil.

Echo's Impact on the MCU
With the show riding on the heels of Loki season 2's success for Disney+ and garnering early rave reviews from critics, Echo could very well be another hit for the MCU on the streaming platform and put it in the right direction following the misfire that was Secret Invasion. The promise of Cox's return as Daredevil and D'Onofri'os Kingpin has already created much anticipation for the show's premiere, particularly as reports indicate its story will lead directly into Daredevil: Born Again.

Early reports indicated that Echo would also set up Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones return as Murdock looks for her, though following the recent creative overhaul, it's unclear if this plan remains to be true. In addition to setting up the new version of the former Netflix MCU show, Echo's success will be key to Marvel's ongoing risks with more mature filmmaking. 2024's Deadpool 3 will mark the first R-rated movie within the franchise, an understandable decision given the success of its predecessors, but one that kept audiences concerned for whether Disney would go for a lighter route before eventually confirming it would retain its original rating. Though rated TV-MA, the original Daredevil show walked close enough of a tightrope to not completely isolate audiences that would fall within the TV-14 demographic, and with Echo choosing the former, it does seemingly ensure that Marvel won't pull any punches for Cox's continuation.

Future MCU Projects
Alongside Deadpool 3 and Daredevil: Born Again, Echo will be key to cementing the MCU's upcoming Blade reboot as retaining the R-rating of Wesley Snipes' original trilogy. Director Yann Demange did indicate in November 2023 that they would be going for the more mature rating, but should the upcoming Disney+ show prove to be a hit, it would give Marvel further confidence to not only allow it to take the extra step with Mahershala Ali's vampire hunter, but also keep the door open for other similar stories, including a Werewolf by Night follow-up or a darker Moon Knight season 2, should it be greenlit.
