Summary
Mohamed Diab's comments suggest that Moon Knight season 2 may not be developed for the MCU, as Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed its continuation.
Amidst the uncertainty, it is possible for the well-liked characters from Moon Knight, notably Marc Spector portrayed by Oscar Isaac, to make appearances in various other ventures in the MCU. These may encompass stories centered on street-level heroes or even forthcoming Avengers movies.
There are rumors circulating that Marvel Studios might be planning to introduce a Midnight Sons team into the MCU, thereby potentially bringing back Moon Knight along with other mystical characters. Nonetheless, the fate of Moon Knight in the MCU remains undecided at present.
Mohamed Diab's comments imply that Moon Knight season 2 may not be developed for the MCU. In Phase 4, Oscar Isaac portrayed Marc Spector, a former mercenary with dissociative identity disorder (DID) who embodies the Egyptian god of the moon, Khonshu. Moon Knight, equipped with supernatural abilities, combats Arthur Harrow, portrayed by Ethan Hawke, and the goddess Ammit during the Moon Knight series in 2022 on Disney+. Moon Knight has been well-received in Phase 4 of the MCU; however, the future of the series remains uncertain.
While there hasn't been an official confirmation about the potential development of Moon Knight season 2, director Mohamed Diab recently spoke to Arabic Marvel (via The Cosmic Circus) about the Marvel Studios creative process and his hopes for the continuation of the series. Unfortunately, Diab mentioned that Marvel has only stated that Loki will have two parts, implying that Moon Knight season 2 may not have been considered by Marvel Studios. Although Moon Knight introduced intriguing new characters to the MCU, it appears that their stories will unfold in other projects separate from the world of Moon Knight itself. Here is Mohamed Diab's complete statement:
Marvel had determined it from the beginning. Marvel's series projects typically consist of six episodes, excluding special projects like WandaVision. The standard format for their series is six episodes. However, Loki was announced to be the only series that would be divided into two parts right from the start. Marvel doesn't follow the usual approach of renewing a project for a second season based on its success. They have a predetermined plan, regardless of whether it proves successful or not.
Where Can Moon Knight Appear If Not In Season 2?
Despite the suggestion that Moon Knight season 2 might not be developed, the popularity of Oscar Isaac's character, along with others like May Calamawy's Scarlet Scarab, indicates that they are likely to make appearances in other projects. Marvel Studios has shown a greater emphasis on street-level narratives in the MCU's Multiverse Saga, which is where Moon Knight thrives. Therefore, it is possible that the character could be featured in shows like Daredevil: Born Again, Captain America: Brave New World, or Thunderbolts. Nonetheless, it appears more probable that Moon Knight could join other heroes in Phase 6's Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, potentially becoming a member of the MCU's new Avengers team.
Speculation suggests that Marvel Studios may be planning to assemble a Midnight Sons team in the MCU. This comes after the Phase 4 introductions of characters like Dane Whitman's Black Knight, Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, and the further development of Doctor Strange. Marvel's Blade reboot could play a significant role in properly introducing this supernatural team from the original Marvel Comics. In fact, it's possible that Oscar Isaac and May Calamawy may reprise their roles as Moon Knight and Scarlet Scarab in the Blade film. However, there hasn't been any definite information about Moon Knight's future in the MCU. While a second season of the Moon Knight series seems unlikely, only time will reveal where this antihero will make his next appearance.
