It has been reported recently that Marvel is contemplating the idea of having Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) reprise their roles in another Avengers film. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has addressed these rumors, stating that he is not aware of them.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he expressed, "I haven't even seen that, is that a new rumor? We didn't discuss that. That's the truth. We are currently working on a project with Scarlett. While I have great affection for Robert and consider him a part of our family, as for his return, we'll have to wait and see."
An unannounced Marvel project, produced by Johansson for the entertainment giant, is the one that Feige is referring to.
In Avengers: Endgame, Iron Man and Black Widow met their demise. However, in the comic book realm, character resurrections are not uncommon, thanks to the multiverse and timelines. This may open up possibilities for their potential return.
Varity's report emphasized that Marvel has not yet fully committed to the idea. Moreover, even if Marvel proceeds with the plan, cost concerns may arise. Robert Downey Jr.'s fee for portraying Iron Man in the MCU is reputedly $20 million or more. Similarly, Scarlett Johansson's appearance fee of $20 million was brought to light during her well-publicized lawsuit against Disney/Marvel for the film Black Widow.
In April of this year, Johansson expressed her finality with Marvel and remarked that the original Avengers film felt male-dominated, referring to it as a "sausage party" due to the limited representation of women.
The next Marvel movie is The Marvels, which is the 33rd MCU film. It's expected to have a slow start at the box office on par with DC's The Flash.

As a die-hard fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I have mixed feelings about the possibility of Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson reprising their roles as Iron Man and Black Widow in a future Avengers film. On the one hand, I would love to see these iconic characters return to the big screen, as they are two of my favorites. On the other hand, I am concerned that their return could overshadow the new characters and storylines that Marvel is trying to develop.
I understand that Marvel is a business, and that bringing back popular characters can be a surefire way to boost box office sales. However, I think it is important for the MCU to move forward and explore new stories and characters. I am excited to see what the future holds for the MCU, and I hope that Marvel will continue to take risks and introduce new and exciting characters and storylines.
