Mark Cuban's Jaw-Dropping Revelation: The ‘Shark Tank’ Investment That Left Him Speechless

Mark Cuban, renowned 'Shark Tank' investor, reveals the investment that left him utterly astonished as these companies are rapidly dominating the market

Mark Cuban was taken aback by the unexpected success of one of his investments on Shark Tank. In an exclusive interview on Thursday, September 28, ahead of the season 15 premiere, the 65-year-old entrepreneur shared his surprise at the achievements of "Beatbox beverages." Initially seen as just a group of partygoers from Austin, the founders have since expanded their offerings to include wine coolers and spritzers. Cuban admitted he initially thought it would be a fun venture.

In the 2015 season of the ABC series, Cuban found the trio's proposal intriguing and recognized the potential in their idea.

"I invested one million dollars for a thirty-three percent stake in the company, and now its valuation has exceeded $200 million. They are projected to generate sales of one hundred million dollars this year, and their success is remarkable," he remarked. "They have become dominant in the spritzer category, particularly among college students who rely heavily on beatbox beverages. It has been an incredible journey."

Cuban achieved success with Beatbox Beverages and various other companies, but there were a few that he missed out on, including Spike Ball.

"I often see my kids playing Spike Ball. We keep it in the garage, and every time I catch a glimpse of it, I can't help but think, oh my goodness. The founders actually wanted me to be the chairman, or rather, the commissioner of a spike ball league," he shared with Us. "Initially, I rejected the idea because I already own an NBA team, so being the commissioner of a spike ball league was the last thing on my mind. However, they were right, and I was wrong."

Cuban joined Shark Tank as a guest shark in season 2 of 2011, never imagining that the show would continue for 15 years. Prior to joining, he had watched the show and was unimpressed with the original sharks' conduct in business, including Daymond John, Barbara Corcoran, Robert Herjavec, Kevin O'Leary, and Kevin Harrington.

Having deemed their performance inadequate, Cuban confidently stated, "They suck. I could come on and do a much better job." When given the opportunity to appear as a guest shark, he initially intended to criticize and disrupt the proceedings. However, he ended up staying on the show ever since.

While Cuban and the other sharks can get ruthless in the boardroom, the Dallas Mavericks owner has a soft spot for the bussing business people they encounter on the series.

"It's incredible how we motivate and educate entrepreneurs to embark on their entrepreneurial journey and provide them with the necessary guidance. The fact that individuals who grew up watching the show now approach us to pitch their ideas makes us feel a bit nostalgic but also extremely proud." In a similar vein, Season 15 of Shark Tank will be aired on ABC on Friday, September 29, at 8:00 PM ET.
