Margot Robbie is Black Magic Barbie.
At the 2023 Gotham Awards on November 27, the 33-year-old actress paid homage to the 1964 doll with an all-black Prada ensemble at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Robbie's attire consisted of a strapless silk dress paired with a sheer cape fastened with a black bow at the neckline, resembling the vintage toy's outfit. She completed the look with black gloves, open-toe heels, and the iconic swirl ponytail. Additionally, Robbie sported rosy wispy lashes, rosy cheeks, and a soft peach lip for a delicate and glamorous appearance.
On the red carpet, Robbie stopped for photos and greeted fans, playfully responding with "Hi Barbie!" to those who called out to her. Just as in the Greta Gerwig-directed film that premiered in July where she played the titular Barbie, Robbie drew inspiration from popular Barbie outfits throughout the film's press tour. During our interview on the red carpet, Robbie shared her thoughts on the film's success and addressed the constant media attention on her diet, revealing that she maintains a diet rich in quality proteins and vegetables.

“I just really try and live my life and be happy,” she told Us. “I think life is about balance, but your happiness should come first.”
During the ceremony, Robbie and Gerwig received the Global Icon & Creator Tribute for Barbie. “Four years ago, I asked Greta to come and write Barbie with me,” Robbie said in their joint speech, adding that Gerwig and her husband and co-writer, Noah Baumbach, “took an object — a doll with no character or story — and cooked up the most ridiculous, outrageous, bananas script in an attempt to conure back what they loved about movies.”

Gerwig, 40, discussed the challenge of bringing Barbie to life during the COVID-19 pandemic. "We realized that since no one was making movies anyways, we might as well not make this one. We pitched the idea to everyone and miraculously, Warner Bros. and Mattel both said yes."
Robbie playfully added, "Basically. Mostly. With some notes that Greta and Noah conveniently ignored."
Gerwig retorted, ”We carefully considered the notes. And then we presented our case.”

Robbie concluded, “You ignored them.”
Since Barbie’s release, the film has officially earned over $1 billion at the box office. Gerwig is the only solo female director to join the billion-dollar director club with a live action movie.
