Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta over Rasmus Hojlund.
The deal in principle is worth an initial £64m with a further £8m in add-ons.
As previously stated by We News, the forward's preferred destination has always been Old Trafford, hence there was no worry about PSG's interest in the Danish international. There were no complications regarding personal terms, as Hojlund has signed a five-year contract with the possibility of extending it for an extra 12 months.
Analysis: Hojlund has huge potential
According to football feature writer Adam Bate, Atalanta's signing of Almeria forward El Bilal Toure on Saturday has provided a much-needed boost for the Premier League side. In a pre-season friendly against Bournemouth, Hojlund was notably absent from the squad.Rasmus Hojlund has caught the attention with a promising season in Serie A, leading Manchester United to place their bets on the 20-year-old prodigy as the future superstar striker in European football. However, the question remains: How can they maximize the potential of this young Danish talent?
Under Sturm Graz's tactical approach, Hojlund was required to make penetrating runs behind the opposing defense. Head coach Christian Ilzer emphasized the need for swift decision-making and a strong sprinting ability from their strikers, qualities which he believes Rasmus possesses in abundance.
Our philosophy and style aligned perfectly with his skillset, creating a favorable environment for him. Ras brought valuable abilities to our team, particularly his speed, physicality, and strong work ethic against the ball. Erik ten Hag will be pleased to have a pressing forward with pace, but it is important to exercise patience. While Hojlund shows promise, significant progression is necessary for United to justify this investment. He has already shown progress at Sturm Graz and Atalanta, and this next step will be crucial.
Ten Hag: Real Madrid defeat shows why Man Utd need a striker
Ten Hag said United's inability to take their chances in a 2-0 friendly loss to Real Madrid on Thursday "absolutely" emphasised their need for a new striker.
United had plenty of opportunities, but they were unable to convert any of their 14 attempts into goals. This is a recurring issue for them, as they struggled with capitalizing on chances last season. When questioned about whether the attacking performance in Texas highlighted the need for a new striker, Ten Hag replied, "Without a doubt."
Improving pressing and scoring goals were two main aspects we needed to focus on. In my opinion, we required players with the ability to excel in one-on-one situations, which we had encountered multiple times.
