West Ham United's £20m bid for defender Harry Maguire has been turned down by Manchester United. The Hammers are now contemplating whether to submit an enhanced offer, taking into consideration the potential concern regarding Maguire's wages.
Manchester United has clarified that they are not actively trying to force Maguire out and acknowledge his importance to the team. However, the bid made by West Ham is considerably lower than the valuation set by Manchester United for the English player.
Maguire can depart from United for more playing time elsewhere, and in that case, the club will demand approximately £40m. Ten Hag, the United boss, wants to retain Maguire as one of his center-back choices. However, he does not want any player to believe that they would be better suited elsewhere and therefore lack the motivation to compete for their position.
Maguire holds the key to his own future, as he has not displayed any signs of reluctance in competing for his position. Interested parties, however, are hindered by the stumbling block of his salary, although a potential compromise of around £35m could be attainable if there is a club Maguire desires to join.
