The most recent bid, which included additional payments, amounted to £50m. However, sources indicate that Chelsea is seeking a higher sum of around £65m. Despite this, Manchester United has a predetermined limit beyond which they are unwilling to exceed.

United retain an interest in West Ham United captain Declan Rice and there have been discussions internally about how possible it would be to sanction a deal.

United's ability to allocate a significant portion of their budget towards a single player is hindered by the Financial Fair Play rules. This limitation is further compounded by their desire to reinforce other areas of their team. Consequently, they are exploring various alternatives in the midfield position. It is worth noting that potential player sales could potentially provide them with additional financial flexibility.

During his time as Ajax head coach, Erik ten Hag had his first encounter with Mount. Playing on loan at Vitesse Arnhem, the young 18-year-old's free-kick contributed to his team's third goal in their 3-2 victory over Ajax in March 2018. Impressed by Mount's performance, Ten Hag attempted to secure a loan deal for him at Ajax from Chelsea for the upcoming season. With an impressive tally of 14 goals and 10 assists in his debut senior football season, primarily playing in central midfield, Mount had certainly caught Ten Hag's eye.

It appears that Ten Hag might finally secure the signing of Mount, as the chances of him remaining at Stamford Bridge are slim. The midfielder is reluctant to extend his contract, and Chelsea recognize the opportune moment to capitalize on a player who only has one year remaining on his current deal.
