Beloved Nintendo GameCube games, Pikmin and Pikmin 2, will be making their way to the Nintendo Switch today. The recent Nintendo Direct showcased a range of exciting announcements, including a remake of Super Mario RPG and a new 2D Super Mario Bros game called Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Amongst the lineup of popular franchises like Pokemon and WarioWare, the Pikmin franchise also received significant attention during the livestream.
In addition to the upcoming release of the newest entry in the Pikmin series, the Nintendo Direct provided fans with fresh details about Pikmin 4. A closer look at the game revealed a new canine companion named Oatchi, as well as a new type of Pikmin called Glow Pikmin. The trailer unveiled the exciting addition of night exploration, a first for the franchise, along with a host of new gameplay mechanics. Surprisingly, Nintendo also announced remasters of two classic Pikmin games.
Nintendo surprised fans by announcing HD remasters of the original GameCube games, Pikmin and Pikmin 2, for the Switch. During the live stream, updated graphics for both games were showcased, and it was revealed that they would be available for download on the Nintendo eShop "later today." These remasters mark the first time that fans will be able to experience the entire Pikmin franchise on the Switch. Previously, Nintendo had released Pikmin 3 Deluxe in 2020, an enhanced version of the Wii U game from 2013. The remasters are set to be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop, but no pricing details have been confirmed yet. The release of these remasters also coincides with the upcoming launch of Pikmin 4, scheduled for July 21.
Today, the highly anticipated Pikmin remasters will be available for the Nintendo Switch.
