In Deadpool 3, a long-awaited moment finally happens as a well-loved character debuts their comic-accurate costume, marking a significant departure from their previous attire after many years of avoidance.
Marvel's acceptance of the unconventional aspects of their comic book universe has only recently become more apparent. This was not the case two decades ago when the X-Men movie, one of Marvel's early ventures into the mainstream, opted for a grittier and more realistic approach. Director Bryan Singer, known for his work on the X-Men franchise, chose to streamline the mutant team's attire with black leather suits, even including snide remarks about the characters' original spandex uniforms.
Decades later, fans may finally have the chance to witness the iconic costumes of one of the franchise's most beloved characters come to life in a live-action adaptation. @canwegetsometoast made a potentially groundbreaking revelation on Instagram, suggesting that Wolverine (portrayed by Hugh Jackman) may finally don his comic-accurate costume in Deadpool 3. A screenshot posted by the user showcases Wolverine's classic black and yellow mask.
This update on Deadpool 3 is just one of the many speculations circulating around the highly anticipated film. Hugh Jackman's unexpected decision to reprise his role, following his definitive farewell in Logan, took many by surprise. Paying homage to the Old Man Logan comics, the film concluded with an emotionally charged farewell to the title character. Despite that, Jackman's return has received the approval of Logan director James Mangold. Since Deadpool takes place chronologically before Logan, its impact on the franchise's legacy remains untarnished.
If any franchise can accurately portray the clawed mutant, it is Deadpool. Despite the disappointing depiction of Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the character has proven to be successful. Ryan Reynolds, who took on a more creative role, ensured a much-improved version of Deadpool. Unlike other films that aimed for a more serious tone, this series embraced the humor found in the comics. From the start, the first film established itself as the quintessential Deadpool experience, immediately engaging the audience with meta humor and fourth-wall-breaking.
Naturally, there were some changes along the way. Negasonic Teenage Warhead's powers were altered from the comics, and Vanessa (played by Morena Baccarin) has yet to transform into the mutant known as Copycat. However, Reynolds diligently incorporated elements from the comic book canon where it mattered most. Deadpool 2 introduced beloved characters like Cable (played by Josh Brolin), a time-traveling warrior, and Domino (played by Zazie Beetz), an expert assassin. Deadpool's simplistic essence allows for more extravagant and unconventional content, even giving us a new version of Wolverine. While specific plot details remain secret, one thing is for certain: Reynolds will not squander this opportunity to portray Wolverine accurately.
Deadpool 3 will be released on May 3, 2024.
