However, he made a triumphant return to the post-apocalyptic world with the highly acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015. This film marked a significant milestone for Miller, as it not only achieved immense critical acclaim but also proved to be a massive commercial success, grossing an impressive $380 million at the global box office. Furthermore, the film received multiple accolades, including Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Director, along with six wins in various technical categories.

Following the success of Mad Max: Fury Road, director George Miller decided to make a new film called Furiosa. The movie will focus on the origin story of the character Furiosa, who was originally portrayed by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road.

Considering the direction the series is taking, it is unlikely that Mel Gibson will reprise his role as Max directly.
