Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer is "thankfully responsive" following a cardiac arrest on the field during the Premier League game against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, according to his club. The match was called off as a result of the incident and Lockyer was taken to the hospital by Luton.
"Our medical team confirmed that the Hatters captain experienced a cardiac arrest on the field, but was responsive by the time he was carried off on a stretcher," Luton stated.
"He received additional treatment within the stadium, for which we are grateful to the medical teams from both sides."
Tom was taken to the hospital, and we want to assure everyone that he is in stable condition and is currently undergoing additional tests with his family by his side. In a previous statement, Luton mentioned on X (formerly Twitter) that Lockyer was "thankfully responsive" after collapsing in the 65th minute of the match.

The 29-year-old was treated on the pitch before he was carried off on a stretcher, and the match was initially suspended as players also left the field.
After the game was canceled, both teams came back onto the pitch and showed their appreciation to the fans by walking around and applauding them as they chanted the name of the Luton captain.
Lockyer also had a collapse in May of this year during the Championship playoff final when Luton secured promotion to the Premier League. He explained that it was caused by an "atrial flutter, which is an irregular heartbeat," but reassured that he had been given the "all-clear" after undergoing a procedure.
"Luton expressed that the players from both teams were not in the right mindset to continue the game after witnessing their beloved teammate and friend being taken off in that manner."
The club also showed gratitude to the crowd for "the incredible applause and chanting of Lock's name inside the stadium."
The match was tied 1-1 in the second half when it was called off.
In a statement released on X, Bournemouth expressed their relief at hearing that Tom is responsive. They also stated that their thoughts are with Tom and his family during this time.
"Wed like to thank all the medical staff for their quick action as well as everyone inside the stadium for their support and unity during a difficult moment."
