Luton's captain, Tom Lockyer, has signed a new contract with the club, the length of which has not been disclosed. Lockyer, a 28-year-old defender from Wales, successfully underwent surgery to address an atrial fibrillation last month. This procedure became necessary after he collapsed during Luton's Sky Bet Championship play-off final victory against Coventry.
Lockyer was key to Luton's promotion to the Premier League, earning a place in the Championship's Team of the Season, and Luton boss Rob Edwards described his new deal as "a huge signing".

Edwards informed the club's official website that prioritizing his health was of utmost importance immediately after the final whistle at Wembley. He expressed delight in witnessing him seated and celebrating in the hospital, although it was regrettable that he couldn't be present with us.
Within a week or two, he recovered and regained his strength, feeling extremely optimistic. He underwent thorough medical examinations, which pleased our medical team immensely.
Although it was an incredibly frightening moment, the important thing is that he is now in good health and prepared to continue with us in the Premier League. We are all elated about it.
Lockyer, who transferred to Luton from Charlton in September 2020, achieved his 100th appearance for the Hatters during the initial match of their play-off semi-final against Sunderland in May.
Throughout the previous season, he netted five goals across various competitions. Notably, Lockyer's decisive header in the second leg of Luton's play-off confrontation with Sunderland secured their spot in the final at Wembley.
Lockyer expressed his delight and enthusiasm, emphasizing his desire to create something remarkable at Luton Town. He emphasized the strong bond he shares with the fans, manager, and teammates, reaffirming his deep affection for the club and his joy in being a part of it.
