Since its debut earlier this month, Love Island Games has been the gift that keeps on giving.
The series is a spinoff of Love Island UK and other franchises, including Love Island USA. It brings former Islanders from around the world back to the villa in Fiji for a chance to find love again and compete in daily challenges for a prize of $100,000.
Similar to the original Love Island series, Love Island Games, which premiered on November 1, has provided both drama and eye-catching visuals. The cast spends their days in bikinis or shirtless with swim trunks, and dresses up for the evenings. With all the time spent in the sun and water, viewers have been curious about how the female stars, particularly those of color, manage to keep their hair looking camera-ready in the tropical conditions.
Zeta Morrison, the winner of Love Island USA season 4 and a bombshell on the November 15 episode of Love Island Games, expressed that it was somewhat challenging. In an exclusive interview with We, she jokingly mentioned how her edges were "whispering" and greeting others. She further disclosed that some of the heat tools provided were not adequately hot and were not suitable for Black girls.
Contestants can bring their own beauty products to the villa and are provided with various haircare items in the dressing rooms, according to Morrison. However, she mentioned not finding edge control this season. Morrison also reminisced about her Love Island USA season, which had plenty of edge control products and edge brushes. She described her experience on that season as "amazing."
Morrison also shared insights into the clothing dilemma. Given the uncertainty of their time in the villa with Love Island Games, Love Island UK and USA, the stars face a challenge in packing. How does one prepare for the unknown, you may wonder?
According to Morrison, the solution is to pack as much as possible. He advised considering every scenario and situation when deciding what to bring. This includes thinking about outfits for bedtime, swimsuits, and attire for decouplings.
Morrison explained that the women on the show often share outfits, which is why viewers may sometimes see them wearing the same clothes throughout the season. She also addressed the question about whether the cast are forced to wear tiny bikinis.
"On my first season of Love Island USA, I felt really confident in my body. This time, however, I wasn't in the shape I wanted to be in, so you'll see me wearing coverups. The production team was very understanding and supportive. There's no strict rule that says 'you must wear a bikini and nothing else.' They simply want you to feel comfortable," Morrison clarified.
Aside from revealing her beauty tips, Morrison also shared insights into her villa approach and the reason behind her decision to give Love Island another shot.
"I entered with a plan to assess the situation. I aimed to engage in conversations and gauge who could be influenced and who couldn't," mentioned Morrison, expressing her interest in Johnny Middlebrooks and Jack Fowler.
“I found Jack to be quite attractive, so he caught my attention, but when it came to the game and performance aspect, Johnny was actually on my mind. However, I was fully aware that I wouldn't be investing any serious feelings in that boy," she clarified.
Middlebrooks, who is 25 years old, gained notoriety for causing drama during his time on season 2 of Love Island when he was coupled up with Cely Vazquez. Despite finishing in second place, the couple ended their relationship a few months later.
Morrison expressed her enthusiasm about returning to the show, particularly due to the novelty of Love Island Games. She marveled at the idea of living with individuals from various parts of the globe, finding it incredibly exciting.
When asked if she was looking for love once more, Morrison playfully hinted, "I'm here to have a great time, not to commit for a prolonged period."
New episodes of Love Island Games premiere on Peacock at 9 p.m. ET six nights a week, Sunday through Friday.
