It derives its name from the ancient symbol of a snake devouring its own tail, symbolizing the continuous cycle of life, death, and rebirth. This symbolism aligns with the purpose of the Oculus Oroboros in the TVA, as it plays a crucial role in managing countless lifetimes, deaths, and timelines that are constantly pruned and created. Executive producer Kevin Wright described the Oculus Oroboros as responsible for maintaining and operating all technological aspects within the TVA, including computers and other devices.

Further exploration reveals additional connections, although they may not seem directly linked. For instance, in Silver Surfer Vol 7 #11 from 2015, the protagonist encounters Admiral Ouroboros while trapped in a time loop.
