Episode 3 amplifies the tension as it reintroduces the formidable antagonist of the MCU's multiverse saga, unveiling his true power and the immense danger he poses.

The boys are back in action

As the Time Loom, also known as the TVA's operational mechanism, begins to crack due to the increasing number of timeline branches manifesting as actuality, Loki, Mobius, and their team come to the realization that they require the assistance of Miss Minutes to override the system and rescue everyone.

However, their knowledge of Miss Minutes' whereabouts is limited to her last known location with Ravonna Renslayer during the emergence of the alternative timelines. By utilizing her Tempad, they successfully trace her movements to two visits she made to Chicago in 1868 and 1893.

Thus, once more, Loki and Mobius reunite to embark on another investigation, reminiscent of the cases they encountered in Season 1.

The relationship between these characters serves as a powerful testament to the growth they have achieved both individually and as a team. In the first season, they found themselves at odds, firmly entrenched on opposite sides of the law. Both possessed strong wills and were unwilling to compromise or cooperate with one another.

A plan literally thousands of years in the making

In Episode 3, a major revelation occurs when it is unveiled that Kang the Conqueror, the antagonist introduced in Season 1, had a backup plan in case Sylvie followed through with her revenge plot and succeeded in eliminating him. This plan involved instructing Miss Minutes to task Renslayer with delivering a small notebook to a child residing in Chicago in the year 1868. While Miss Minutes does not provide extensive details to Renslayer, she does disclose that the book will aid Kang in reclaiming his position as The Man at the End of Time.

The audience witnesses the child opening the package and discovering an instruction book that explains the functioning of the TVA and details how it can be utilized to bring about the current universe we observe. Based on these indications, one can conclude that the child who received the notebook is a Kang variant who He Who Remains intended to replace him in the event of his demise.

The TVA and its members in Loki offer a unique perspective on time, with Kang's variant given a notebook to shape the reality we witness. Unlike other multiverse media, Loki's concept of time defies traditional linear or circular patterns, allowing it to flow freely.

Kang possessing the means to establish the TVA and the entire system which Sylvie endeavored to dismantle raises doubts about her actions since, ultimately, her efforts seemed insignificant. Kang inevitably possessed a winning strategy, leaving her powerless to prevent it.

Not a man nor a god, just a crook

In Episode 3 of Loki, the highly awaited scene unfolds where Loki and Mobius confront Victor Timely, a variant of Kang, and the child Renslayer had visited. During a festival, Loki witnesses Victor presenting a remarkable machine that supposedly converts time into energy capable of fueling entire cities.

The Temporal Loom, named by him, is the very same machine utilized by the TVA to fuel its operations, and serves as the central source of contention throughout the season.

In a comical and evident turn of events, Loki and Mobius come to the realization that they require Victor's assistance in safeguarding the TVA's Loom. This entails shielding him from Sylvie's fury and extracting him from Renslayer's grasp.

In addition, Renslayer and the duo unearth Victor's true nature as a cunning trickster selling his creations, such as the Loom, at exorbitant rates. However, as soon as the contraption inevitably malfunctions, Victor skillfully evades any criticism or opposition.

Witnessing this version of Kang is awe-inspiring because, despite sharing a resemblance, he possesses his own distinct identity, which becomes unsettling when considering his future transformation.

Exploring variants who possess similarities in appearance but vary in personalities is an enjoyable experience, as it deviates from what we are accustomed to with Loki's variants, who tend to be vastly different iterations of himself.

It's extremely enjoyable to observe an actor portraying a character who is entirely distinct, yet manages to uphold the fundamental principles linked to the character they are genetically related to.

Victor, instead of prioritizing the well-being of the multiverse, is merely an opportunist seeking to rapidly acquire wealth.

Renslayer's explanation of his greater purpose doesn't appear to captivate Victor in the same way it did He Who Remains, raising the question of whether Victor is a benevolent variant or if he is patiently plotting for the opportune moment to strike.

He Who Remains is filled with apprehension regarding the potential actions of his variants. It remains to be seen whether he will emerge as the antagonist of Season 2 or if he will entrust the responsibility to an individual in his inner circle.

Witnessing Loki and Mobius reuniting for another detective-style mission was truly remarkable as it is in this particular aspect that the show truly excels.

Victor's introduction to the story was masterfully executed, enticing audiences with his impressive machines and promises of world-changing ideas while concealing his true shady nature. The episode's gripping conclusion leaves viewers on a thrilling cliffhanger, leaving fans eagerly anticipating next week's episode to uncover the secrets that Miss Minutes has been keeping regarding He Who Remains.
