While no further details about the display were given at the time of writing, this new monitor from LG may be useful to PC gaming enthusiasts looking for a competitive edge.
Held annually at the Las Vegas Convention Center and surrounding venues, CES is a tech trade show, with brands from around the globe such as LG, Samsung, Sony, and more showcasing different concepts and products to attendees and members of the press.
Following delays and cancellations that occurred during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2023 edition of CES was held fully in person. Among the 2023 CES highlights, Sony showed off what would become the PlayStation Access controller, and companies such as Acer, Asus, and Lenovo revealed their updated gaming laptop suites.
The 2024 edition of CES will run from Tuesday, January 9, through Friday, January 12, with media days on Sunday, January 7, and Monday, January 8.
Details of LG's Latest Gaming Monitor
Hoping to continue the trend of showcasing game-changing hardware in 2024, LG pulled back the curtain on one such device. In a press release from LG, the Korean-based company went into some detail about its latest 27-inch 1440p monitor.
With an OLED display capable of a 480Hz refresh rate, the latest gaming monitor from LG also boasts a response time of 0.03ms, which LG claimed was the fastest among panels available on the market.
LG stated that the OLED monitor will aim to emit the lowest level of blue light to prevent eye fatigue and minimize flickering as much as possible.
In addition to the 27-inch offering, LG said that gaming OLED monitors in sizes ranging from 31.5 to 45 inches will also be shown at CES. LG added that it hoped to have its new 27-inch display on the market within the first half of 2024, but no further details on prices and dates were offered.
Market Impact and Consumer Expectations
The high refresh rate on this high-end 1440p gaming monitor is marketed towards PC gamers who play competitive shooters such as Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Counter-Strike 2. Ergo, the high refresh rate allows for frame rates to reach as high as the monitor's refresh rate.
It remains to be seen if LG's upcoming gaming OLED display will be a hit with consumers. But, between LG's latest offerings and potential new graphics cards from Nvidia, the 2024 edition of CES is one that PC gamers will not want to miss.
