Larry David was deeply moved upon hearing about the passing of Richard Lewis.

In a statement to USA Today on Wednesday, February 28, David, 76, shared, "Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he’s been like a brother to me. He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I’ll never forgive him."

We sadly announced the passing of Lewis at the age of 76 on Wednesday. His publicist released a statement saying, "Richard Lewis passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles last night after suffering a heart attack."

Lewis and David worked together on over 40 episodes of the popular HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm. Similar to David, who was the creator of the show, Lewis played a fictionalized version of himself. In 2021, Lewis initially stated he would not be appearing in more episodes due to recovering from three surgeries. However, he later made a brief one-scene appearance before returning for additional episodes in the current season 12 airing on HBO.

The network issued a heartfelt statement following Lewis' passing, expressing their deep sorrow. They praised his unmatched comedic brilliance, wit, and talent, emphasizing his cherished place within the HBO and 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' communities. The network extended their condolences to his family, friends, and loyal fans who found joy and laughter in Lewis' work.

Lewis joked about death in an episode from earlier this month.

David informed Lewis that he was including him in his will, with some adjustments. Lewis responded by expressing his deep care and friendship, insisting that David was also included in his own will. Despite David's initial refusal of the money, Lewis was persistent in ensuring that David was included. This topic resurfaced later in the episode.

David pointed out that he was beginning to understand the situation. He realized that Lewis was including him in his will in the hopes of being included in David's will as well. This realization prompted Lewis to exclaim, "Are you out of your mind?"

Continuing the conversation, David questioned Lewis's assumption that he would pass away before his friend. He pointed out that Lewis seemed a bit worn out at the moment, while he himself was in better shape. Lewis confidently declared, "I'm going to outlive you by 20 years."

Lewis is survived by his wife Joyce Lapinsky, whom he married in 2005.
