Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, the epitome of unmarried but devoted partners, have contemplated the concept themselves.

Russell, 72, mentioned to Extra on Friday, November 17, that he has been in a relationship with his partner for 40 years. The topic of marriage has been brought up recently in conversations, which was not the case before. Russell explained that their past relationships, where both of them had been previously married, have influenced their decision to not get married. "We have already experienced marriage and have lived our lives. We are content with our family, which continues to expand. It's amazing," he stated.

Russell and Hawn, who were 77 years old, crossed paths in 1966 while working on the set of their movie The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band. However, during this time, they were both in committed relationships with other individuals.

(Russell, in particular, was married to Season Hubley from 1979 to 1983. Together, they have a son named Boston. Hawn, on the other hand, was previously married to Gus Trinkonis from 1969 to 1976. After their divorce, she later married Bill Hudson and had children, namely Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1982.)

In a 2012 BBC interview, Hawn reminisced about her initial impression of Russell, describing him as "adorable" but "too young" when they first met. However, her perspective shifted when they reunited while working on the film Swing Shift in 1983.

"When we crossed paths again, I was reminded of how much I had liked him from our first encounter," she stated. "Both of us had sworn off dating actors, so it just goes to show that you can never predict what will happen."

The couple has been going strong since then, and they welcomed their son, Wyatt, in 1986. Both Hawn and Russell have been open about their choice not to marry, with Hawn stating in a 2007 interview with Woman's Day that they have been doing "perfectly fine" without tying the knot.

"I already feel a deep commitment, and isn't that the essence of marriage? As long as my emotions remain devoted, honest, caring, and loving, we are content," she stated. She further mentioned that both she and Russell keep their finances separate and are financially stable in their own right.

"We have successfully raised our children to become extraordinary individuals," she added. "We accomplished this without the necessity of marriage. I appreciate waking up every morning and being grateful for the presence of my partner and the freedom of choice. Therefore, there seems to be no compelling reason to enter into matrimony."

In a previous statement, Hawn acknowledged the unpleasantness of divorce and expressed her aversion to going through it again. She emphasized the financial implications and negative impact it can have on one's emotions, relationships, and most importantly, the well-being of children involved.

Russell, on the other hand, expressed his confusion in a March interview with Variety about why people are so concerned about his and Hawn's marital status, particularly since it doesn't affect their children. Over the years, their children have voiced similar opinions. In an exclusive interview with We in 2021, Oliver, who is 47 years old, praised Russell and Hawn as "extraordinary grandparents" and emphasized the strong bond that their family shares.

"We have a close-knit family," said the Nashville alum, who has children named Wilder, Bodhi, and Rio with his wife Erin Bartlett. "We all live in close proximity to each other.... They're incredible individuals, wonderful grandparents, and exceptional parents."

Russell and Hawn have maintained a professional collaboration in films such as Overboard in 1987, The Christmas Chronicles in 2018, and its sequel The Christmas Chronicles 2 in 2020.

In March, Hawn shared with Variety that Russell's approach to their careers is very "similar," describing him as exceptionally talented, innovative, and collaborative in his work. However, she jokingly mentioned that it doesn't extend to the kitchen.
