Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have defied the odds, demonstrating that love can withstand the test of time in Hollywood.
Although their paths first crossed in 1966, it wasn't until their collaboration on the 1983 film Swing Shift that their romantic journey began.
Russell and Hawn had previous marriages: Russell to Season Hubley from 1979 to 1983, and Hawn to Gus Trinkonis from 1969 to 1976 and then to Bill Hudson from 1976 to 1982 (who is also the father of her children Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson). Even though they have been together for many years and have a son born in 1986, they have chosen not to get married due to their past experience with divorce.
"[Divorce is] always a messy affair," she shared with CNN in July 2023. "One must confront the reality and consider, how many divorces truly bring joy? How many divorces don't come with financial burdens? How many divorces intensify the hatred between the individuals involved? How many divorces leave children suffering?"
Additionally, she expressed, "I cherish the notion of waking up each morning and exercising the freedom to decide if I want to be a part of this. ... I strongly believe that maintaining independence, embracing individual thoughts, allows one to remain true to themselves and experience that sense of fulfillment."

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell’s Love Story: A Look at Their Romance Over the Years
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have defied the odds, showcasing the enduring nature of Hollywood love stories.
Their paths first crossed in 1966, but it wasn't until their joint efforts on the film Swing Shift in 1983 that they embarked on a romantic journey.
Before their romantic relationship, Russell was married to Season Hubley from 1979 to 1983, while Hawn went through two divorces of her own. Initially, she was married to Gus Trinkonis from 1969 to 1976, and subsequently to Bill Hudson, with whom she has children Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson, from 1976 to 1982.
Despite years of togetherness and the birth of their son Wyatt Russell in 1986, the couple has decided against getting married, having witnessed the challenges of divorce.
"Divorce is always a disheartening experience," she expressed to CNN in July 2023. "One must truly acknowledge the scarcity of divorces that are enjoyable, cost-free, or do not foster a deeper dislike towards the other person. Moreover, we must consider how many divorces inflict pain upon children."
Furthermore, she remarked, "I value the freedom to awaken each morning and have the autonomy to decide whether I want to be present. ... I believe maintaining one's independence and individuality is crucial for preserving self-identity and experiencing genuine contentment."

Reflecting on their initial encounter, the Snatched actress shared with BBC Radio 4 in 2012, "I found him absolutely charming, but he seemed too young for me." However, fate intervened as they reunited years later, and Hawn recalled her fond feelings for him from their first meeting. Surprisingly, both of them had made a pact to avoid dating fellow actors, proving that you never truly know what the future holds.

2015: Making Love Last
“A lasting relationship isn’t just about getting married. It hinges on compatibility and effective communication. Moreover, both individuals involved must genuinely desire for the relationship to prosper,” Hawn disclosed to Porter magazine back in 2015. “If one person lacks the desire for it to work, then it is bound to fail. The key lies in having the right intention. At the same time, it’s essential to maintain individuality within the relationship. We must be like two pillars supporting the house and the roof, and yet remain distinct, without the need to agree on every aspect. It's about learning how to handle disagreements. Everything boils down to making choices.”

2023: An Enduring Love Story
The actress, who stars in the film Snatched, expressed her admiration for her long-term partner in her cover story for Variety, which was published in March 2023. “Kurt is incredibly talented, creative, and collaborative, although these qualities do not extend to his skills in the kitchen,” Hawn shared with the outlet. “Nevertheless, he is truly remarkable. Kurt and I share many similarities. We both do not see ourselves as movie stars. It is not something that occupies our thoughts.”
Russell, on his part, echoed his partner's feelings when it came to the persistent pressure they faced regarding marriage.
"When are you going to get married? Why aren't you married?" he reminisced, recounting the questions they were frequently asked after they mentioned the idea at the Oscars in 1989, where they jointly presented the Best Director category. "And we simply wondered, 'Why does it matter to anyone?' We even asked our children if it mattered to them. It didn't. And it didn't matter to us either."
