King Charles and Queen Camilla Spent Their 19th Wedding Anniversary in Scottish Getaway

King Charles III and Queen Camilla recently marked their 19th wedding anniversary at their Balmoral estate in Scotland. The royal couple, aged 75 and 76 respectively, made the journey to Aberdeen and then drove for an hour to reach their property situated alongside the River Muick. The celebration took place one day after their anniversary on Tuesday, April 9, as reported by Hello! Magazine.

The royal couple revisited Birkhall, where they had honeymooned almost two decades ago. Charles and Camilla tied the knot in 2005, almost a decade after his divorce from Princess Diana was finalized. (Diana, with whom Charles had sons Prince William and Prince Harry, passed away in 1997.)

Unlike the grand royal weddings that typically take place with public celebrations at Buckingham Palace, Charles and Camilla opted for a more intimate ceremony. Only 28 guests attended, including William, now 41, Harry, now 37, and Camilla’s children from her previous marriage with Andrew Parker Bowles, daughter Laura and son Tom.

The couple took a break for their anniversary trip to relax and unwind after facing some difficult times within the royal family. In February, Buckingham Palace shared that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer following a procedure for his enlarged prostate. They mentioned that Charles would reduce his public appearances to focus on his treatment.

As Charles focuses on his health, other members of the royal family have taken on more responsibilities. Recently, he asked his younger brother Prince Edward and his wife, Duchess Sophie, to lead a Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Edward, who is 60 years old, recently became a member of the prestigious Order of the Thistle. At the same time, he has been handling more duties as a senior working royal. Princess Kate Middleton has also stepped back from her public duties temporarily to focus on her health after announcing her cancer diagnosis in March.
