Kevin Hart has firmly stated that he has no intention of returning to host the Oscars, nearly six years after resigning due to resurfaced tweets. "It's not gonna happen," the 44-year-old actor declared during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on January 11. He expressed that there is no upside for him in taking on the role again, emphasizing that the idea should be dismissed.
When Andy Cohen mentioned that hosting the Oscars is a "thankless job," Hart further explained his view, emphasizing the significance of the Oscars as a platform with millions of viewers. He acknowledged that earlier in his career, hosting the Oscars may have been a milestone for him, but he has since moved beyond that and no longer feels the need to pursue it.
Kevin Hart was originally chosen to host the 2019 Oscars, but before the event, old homophobic tweets resurfaced, causing a backlash. The controversial posts have since been removed from X (formerly Twitter), and in response to the criticism, Hart decided to step down from his hosting role.
Kevin Hart announced that he would not be hosting the upcoming Oscars, stating that he did not want to detract from the celebration of the talented artists attending the event. He also issued a statement apologizing to the LGBTQ community for his past insensitive remarks.
After Hart's departure, the Oscars proceeded without a host. When the following year's ceremony approached, he showed no interest in coming back.
"I'm done with it," Hart stated on Good Morning America in January 2019. "There's no need for further discussion...I've moved on from that, I've moved on from that time."

Hart, who had strong views about not returning to the Oscars, shared his thoughts on Koy's recent awards show experience during an interview on Thursday. Koy, 52, hosted the 2024 Golden Globes earlier this month and received criticism for some of his monologue jokes being deemed inappropriate and unfunny. However, Koy has stood by his jokes.
Hart commented, "It's a challenging audience. It's an industry crowd, so there's a sense of anticipation and potential backlash. They're all on edge wondering, 'What will you say about me?' It's not a crowd that readily laughs. I believe the comedians who have succeeded in this are the ones who understand the industry well."
