The talented duo first crossed paths on the popular Nickelodeon show, All That, in the early 1990s. Their incredible chemistry and comedic abilities on the sketch comedy series eventually paved the way for their own spinoff show, Kenan & Kel, which captivated audiences from 1996 to 2000.

Thompson and Mitchell's popularity soared in 1997 when they starred together in Good Burger, a comedy film based on one of their All That sketches. In the sketch, they portrayed fast-food employees determined to rescue the struggling restaurant from impending closure.

In September 2015, the pair teased fans with a glimpse of a potential sequel during their appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Mitchell reprised his role as Ed, the manager of Good Burger, while host Jimmy Fallon portrayed a staff member in a comedic skit on the talk show. Just three months later, Mitchell returned to The Tonight Show alongside Thompson to officially announce the highly-anticipated Good Burger 2.

Several days later, the duo made an appearance at ’90s Con and divulged additional information about the highly anticipated movie. "There has been a sense of anticipation among fans, and we ourselves have been eagerly waiting to bring this project to fruition and share it with everyone," Thompson expressed enthusiastically to the audience. "Perhaps we may even consider creating sequels in a manner akin to the Fast and Furious franchise, such as part 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. The possibilities are endless, and it genuinely excites me."

After more than 20 years, Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are finally returning to portray their beloved characters, Dexter Reed and Ed, in the highly anticipated Good Burger 2.

The longtime friends first met on Nickelodeon’s All That in the early ‘90s. Their success on the sketch comedy series led to their spinoff series, Kenan & Kel, which ran from 1996 to 2000.

Thompson and Mitchell’s fame grew even more in 1997 when they costarred in Good Burger. The comedy was based off one of their All That sketches in which they played fast-food workers trying to save the establishment from going under.

What Have Thompson and Mitchell Teased About the Sequel?

In December 2022, Mitchell expressed exclusively to Us that things were finally coming together after a table read with the cast. Following the exciting news of Good Burger 2's development, the Chicago native opened up about his beloved character.

In a press release from March 2023, Mitchell spoke about the enduring appeal of Ed, a character that has brought immense joy and laughter to fans throughout the years. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue telling the stories of Dex, Ed, and Good Burger, not only for the fans who grew up watching but also for the younger generation.

Thompson expressed his enthusiasm for the project in a press release, exclaiming, "I cannot believe that it has been more than 25 years since the inception of exceptional customer service at Good Burger! Being a part of something that multiple generations have come to adore has filled me with immense pride. And now, to be back at the place where it all began, working on the sequel, feels incredibly surreal! I absolutely love performing alongside my brother Kel, and I am eagerly looking forward to showcasing to the audience what these beloved characters have been up to since we last encountered them."

When Did ‘Good Burger 2’ Get Announced?

The news was confirmed by the original stars during their joint appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in March 2023.
