Kelly Rowland was spotted having a tense moment with security while walking the red carpet at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
She was seen posing for photographers and greeting fans at the premiere of the French-Italian film Marcello Mio on Tuesday, May 21. Security officials escorted the 43-year-old singer up the iconic red carpet stairs, as shown in footage shared online.
In the video, a security staff member is shown helping Rowland up the stairs, guiding her with a hand on her back and giving her verbal directions as she goes up.
But things get tense when Rowland suddenly scolds the staff member, pointing her finger in the official's face.
Rowland almost reaches the top of the stairs and then turns to the staff member to share her final thoughts. After that, several red carpet officials step in to calm down the security guard.
Some social media users tried to read Rowland's lips in the video. Some people thought that the singer of "Motivation" said to the security guard, "Don't talk to me like that."
The singer has not talked about the awkward moment yet. However, she posted a picture of herself on the red carpet on Instagram Stories a few hours later with the caption, “Fun in Cannes.”
This uncomfortable situation happened after the former Destiny’s Child member made news earlier this year for allegedly leaving the set of the Today show.
After being interviewed by Savannah Guthrie on February 15, Rowland was set to fill in for Jenna Bush Hager as a cohost during the fourth hour of the show.
Instead, Rita Ora took on the role with Hoda Kotb.
During an interview with Chicago’s WGN News on February 22, Rowland was asked why she didn't fulfill her cohosting duty. She replied, “No, because I’m thrilled to be here to talk about the movie and that's all.”
Several news sources stated that Rowland left the Today show because she was unhappy with her dressing room. Guthrie, who is 52 years old, later seemed to agree that Rowland had valid concerns.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on February 21, Guthrie joked that they needed a makeover for their dressing room on the Today show. She mentioned that the studio, 1A, has been used for many years and while it is historic and iconic, it is also old.
Editor's P/S:
The incident involving Kelly Rowland and security at the Cannes Film Festival highlights the challenges and pressures faced by celebrities in the public eye. While security measures are necessary to maintain order and protect attendees, the manner in which they are enforced can sometimes lead to misunderstandings. Rowland's reaction suggests that she felt disrespected by the security staff member's approach, and it is important to ensure that security personnel treat attendees with dignity and professionalism.
Rowland's alleged departure from the Today show earlier this year raises questions about the workplace environment and expectations for guest hosts. It is crucial for production teams to provide clear communication and adequate facilities to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of all participants. The comments made by Savannah Guthrie indicate that the Today show is aware of the need for improvements, and it remains to be seen whether measures will be taken to address these concerns in the future.
