Kelly Clarkson opened up about how her personal challenges influenced her decision to move to New York City before the fifth season of her talk show. In an interview with USA Today, Clarkson admitted that initially she thought it was a terrible decision. She explained that she needed a fresh start and felt that Los Angeles was not the right fit for her. Although she would have preferred to be in Montana, she recognized that it was not feasible to host her show from there at the moment. Ultimately, New York City became the next best option for her.
Clarkson, who divorced Brandon Blackstock in June 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage, acknowledged her initial hesitations but expressed her contentment living in the city. Additionally, she was awarded primary custody of their two children, River Rose, 9, and Remington, 7, in March 2022.

"I absolutely adore it, and I'm thrilled that my children feel the same," she expressed, mentioning that her recent rental is conveniently situated near all the excitement. "I insisted, 'I'm only living here if it's located right next to the park and offers a pleasant environment for the kids.'"
Despite achieving success with her daytime show in Los Angeles, Clarkson disclosed that her initial four seasons were somewhat marred by personal relationship issues.
Clarkson admitted that she often wore a smile during those times, despite facing personal challenges. Through these experiences, she has gained valuable insight into her own strengths and limits. This led her to make the decision to leave The Voice and embark on a new journey. While she cherishes her time with the show's family, she reached a point where she couldn't force herself to smile anymore. Now, as the "Magic" singer takes on a new talk show at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, she is reclaiming her happiness.
In season 5, I am really enjoying where I am at personally, with my children, and also with the show," she expressed. "I feel a sense of relief, like a burden has been lifted. The relocation was truly necessary."
Admitting her enthusiasm, Clarkson revealed that she is particularly thrilled about the change in location in season 5 because it allows her to genuinely come to work with a smile on her face.

She concluded by saying, "It's a wonderful gift that you only fully appreciate once you're no longer in it."
Clarkson and Blackstock, aged 46, officially ended their difficult divorce proceedings in March 2022. As part of the settlement, Clarkson agreed to provide her ex-husband with a monthly spousal support payment of $115,000 until January 2024. Additionally, she made a one-time payment of over $1.3 million to Blackstock.
The ex-Voice coach has committed to providing $45,601 per month in child support until their children reach the age of 18, complete their high school education, or attain financial independence.
Earlier this year, Clarkson came under scrutiny after Rolling Stone published an exposé in May. The article featured accounts from several former talk show employees who claimed to have been overworked, underpaid, and subjected to a work environment that negatively impacted their mental health.
Addressing the controversy in the same month, Clarkson stated, "Throughout my 20 years in the entertainment industry, I have always prioritized following my heart and doing what I believe is right. I deeply care for my team at The Kelly Clarkson Show, and it is completely unacceptable to learn that anyone feels unheard or disrespected on our show." Clarkson further emphasized her unwavering commitment to establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for everyone involved with The Kelly Clarkson Show.
"I affirm my dedication to assembling not only a highly skilled and compassionate team for our upcoming move to the East Coast but also for our new team in [New York]."
In response, NBC released a statement emphasizing their commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful work environment. They asserted that workplace complaints are treated seriously and promptly investigated and addressed. The objective of The Kelly Clarkson Show is to create an inclusive and creative workplace that fosters a culture of respect and equality."
