Keanu Reeves is already an actor and musician — and soon, he’ll be a published novelist.
59-year-old Reeves is collaborating with speculative fiction author China Miéville on the novel, titled The Book of Elsewhere, set to be published on July 23. The story will take place in the same world as the BRZRKR comic series, which Reeves helped create with writer Matt Kindt and artist Ron Garney.
In a prerecorded video shared with Good Morning America on Wednesday, January 10, Reeves expressed his excitement about the project, stating, "I love the world of BRZRKR so much that I wanted to explore it further and thought one of the best ways to do that is through a novel. If you read it, I hope you love it."
Reeves expressed his excitement about collaborating with Miéville, whom he called one of his favorite authors. He praised Miéville's clear architecture for the story and his vision for the world of BRZRKR, stating that he was thrilled and honored to be part of the collaborative process.
Miéville expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate on The Book of Elsewhere with Reeves, describing it as an honor, a shock, and a delight. He highlighted Reeves' generosity in sharing his creative ideas, his enthusiasm for experimentation, and his willingness to engage in true collaboration. The Perdido Street Station author expressed his hope that readers will experience the same pleasure in reading The Book of Elsewhere as he did in the writing process. Meanwhile, Reeves is currently involved in a live-action adaptation of the BRZRKR series for Netflix, with an anime spinoff series also in development for the streaming platform.
Reeves' debut novel, The Book of Elsewhere, marked his first foray into writing, although he had previously worked on two art books with his girlfriend, Alexandra Grant, released in 2011 and 2014.
The couple first met in 2009 at a dinner party and soon developed a close friendship. Their romantic relationship became public in 2019, but it was later confirmed that they had been dating for at least two years prior to that.
