Perry's last season as a judge on the singing competition show was Season 22. She had been a judge on the show since its 2018 reboot. Now, she plans to shift her focus to her music career. After releasing her album "Smile" in 2020, she is working on a new album.

Perry is stepping down from her role as a judge, but before leaving, she shared who she believes would be the perfect replacement.

In an interview with E! News in April, she expressed her admiration for Jelly Roll's performance on the show. She was so impressed that she said she would believe anything he said. Perry even joked that he could run for president or be her pastor, and she would follow him. She mentioned how having Jelly Roll and other talented individuals on the show would be fantastic. Perry ended her statement by expressing her love for Jelly Roll.

Jelly Roll, 39, happily agreed to the suggestion, saying he would love to join Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie at the judges' table.

When asked at Stagecoach in April if he would consider the gig, Jelly Roll joked, "Consider? I've accepted the job and they haven't offered it."

ABC has not yet revealed who will replace Perry for Season 23 of the show.

During the emotional three-hour Idol finale on Sunday, Perry was moved by the many tributes to her career. As she bid farewell to the competition show, the Top 12 female contestants performed a medley of her hits "Teenage Dream," "Dark Horse," and "California Gurls" on stage.

Before the final episode, Perry was already aware that it would be a challenging one to film.

In an interview with KABC, the singer expressed, "I feel like I might tear up at everything. It has been a wonderful journey, and I enjoy seeing these kids grow and come together like a big, beautiful patchwork quilt."
