Kate Beckinsale and rapper Big Boss Vette arrive for DiCaprio's birthday.

Kate Beckinsale donned a bedazzled mini dress during the weekend festivities in Los Angeles, commemorating Leonardo DiCaprio's 49th birthday. The photograph of the black dress, accentuated by a striking blue gemstone-like belt, has gained widespread attention on the internet.

The look appears to be a charming homage to a renowned movie featuring DiCaprio, but the question remains unanswered: Is the gem a blue diamond or blue sapphire?

The former, of course, might be a nod to one of the most famous pieces of jewelry in movie history - the fictional heart-shaped blue diamond from "Titanic" (1997), worn by the other important Kate in DiCaprio's life. However, since the Heart of the Ocean is, well, heart-shaped, a second possible inspiration for the look is a piece of jewelry with more direct significance to Beckinsale. In her co-starring role as Ava Gardner in "The Aviator," Beckinsale declares to Howard Hughes, played by DiCaprio, that she's "not for sale" when he woos her with a square-cut blue sapphire necklace.

Billy Zane and Kate Winslet in "Titanic," which turned the fictional "Heart of the Ocean" into one of the most recognizable pieces of jewelry in the world.

Beckinsale's larger-than-life fictional gemstone stole the show, but it was surprisingly not a unique creation for the event. Instead, it came straight from The Blonds Fall-Winter 2023 collection, showcased during New York Fashion Week in February.

The collection by designer Phillipe Blond and creative director David Blond was a lively tribute to Hollywood glamour, taking inspiration from movies like "Valley of the Dolls" and the jewelry worn by stars like Elizabeth Taylor. It featured sculptural corsets, velvet gowns, and sequined party dresses adorned with oversized gemstone motifs.

Beckinsale opted for the ultra-mini dress for her night out, pairing it with black tights that followed the pantsless trend. She accessorized with sky-high reflective platform heels and a large black hair bow.

According to Harpers Bazaar, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Salma Hayek, Kim Kardashian, Zoë Kravitz, and Channing Tatum were among the other guests present at the Beverly Hills fête. However, it was Beckinsale's stunning outfit that truly stood out, making it the highlight of the night.
