Julie Plec, co-creator of The Vampire Diaries, recently shared that she has additional ideas for expanding the popular franchise. The supernatural teen drama, initially underestimated as just another YA adaptation, was created by Kevin Williamson and Plec, gaining both commercial success and critical acclaim. Spanning from 2009 to 2017 with 171 episodes, The Vampire Diaries not only boosted the careers of its cast members like Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder, but also spawned two successful spinoffs, The Originals and Legacies.
During the premiere of her new show The Girls on The Bus, featuring Melissa Benoist from Supergirl, Plec hinted at more plans for The Vampire Diaries universe. Although she didn't provide details, Plec suggested that the TVD novels could serve as inspiration for future projects. Here's a quote from Plec:
Yeah, I have a story I still want to tell. I believe that everyone involved in the book also has a story they want to share. Co-created by Plec and Amy Chozik, with Rina Mimoun as showrunner, The Girls on The Bus will premiere on Thursday, March 14 with two episodes. Following that, a new episode will be released on Max every week until the finale on May 9.
