Julianne Hough is cutting off old energy in the new year.
On Sunday, January 7, the 35-year-old actress shared a video on Instagram of herself cutting her own hair at a salon appointment. In the video, Hough sat in the salon chair, playing with her wavy blonde locks before being handed a pair of scissors by a hairstylist. She then began to carefully cut sections of her hair.
"Wow, you're killing it!" her stylist praised from behind the camera. "Great angles."
"I want to see some slide action," Hough requested as she continued cutting. "This is so exhilarating! I'm loving this length."
The former Dancing with the Stars contestant kept playing with her hair, then proceeded to trim the same amount off the other side. "This is the new method, folks," Hough quipped for the camera. "You just come in and give yourself a haircut."
"At least I don't hesitate, I just go for it," Hough later chuckled.

After completing the haircut, her hair was noticeably shorter but still long. Hough gently placed the scissors down and ran her fingers through her hair as she looked at her reflection in the camera. Addressing her fans, she exclaimed, "There you have it, a seven minute haircut! It's so adorable!"

Hough captioned her photo with the words, "Saying goodbye to old energy and embracing the new," followed by reflections on the changing seasons of life. She felt it was the perfect moment to rid herself of old energy and start anew.
On January 7, Hough surprised everyone with an even shorter blunt bob at the Emmys. The next day, she shared a photo of her new hairstyle on Instagram with the caption, "Keeping things short & sweet."
