Jon Hamm has built a career as a dramatic leading man, showcasing his comedic skills in 30 Rock, Bridesmaids, and Confess, Fletch. He is now returning to heavy drama with the latest season of FX's Fargo, where he plays North Dakota Sheriff Roy Tillman, a strict lawman who believes his word is law.
While these roles are in line with his usual brand, one type of role has evaded Hamm for years: a comic book movie role. He was rumored to be Doctor Strange in 2014 but ultimately did not pursue the opportunity. Additionally, he was in talks to play Mister Sinister in the canceled Gambit solo feature and was rumored to appear in The New Mutants film.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Hamm expressed that while he isn't actively seeking out a role in a comic book movie, he is open to the idea of joining the Marvel team in the future. "I've been a fan of Marvel Comics and comics in general since I was probably single digits. I think there are tons of stories that I'm familiar with, at least, that are still out there to be told," the actor stated.
"I hope they consider me for whatever plans they have, but if not, I know they have a talented group of people ready to take on those stories. There are countless stories to tell in the X-Men and Fantastic Four universe, like Doctor Doom. The possibilities are endless. I hope I have the opportunity, but who knows?" With the studio gearing up for the next Marvel phase, Doom's character is highly speculated to be the focus as Marvel moves on from Kang and Jonathan Majors.
