Jodie Sweetin expressed her disapproval of her upcoming film being sold to Great American Family, the network associated with her former Full House costar Candace Cameron Bure. In a statement released on Friday, August 11, Sweetin, 41, shared that as actors, they often do not have control over which network purchases their projects and are not involved in the selling process. Therefore, she was taken aback to learn about the sale of the independent film she had worked on over a year ago through media reports.

She expressed her disappointment, but she remains committed to her mission of supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Therefore, any profits generated from the sale will be donated to LGBTQ+ organizations. On Wednesday, August 9, it was announced that Sweetin's latest romantic comedy, Craft Me a Romance, will be featured as one of Great American Family's seven new movies during their upcoming Great American Autumn event in the following month.

Cameron Bure, former costar of Sweetin in Full House and Fuller House, became the chief creative officer of the network in November 2022. She announced that the channel would prioritize "traditional marriage at the core." "I aspire to create stories that hold greater significance, purpose, and depth," she shared with WSJ. Magazine. "I joined Great American Family because they are believers in Christianity and are dedicated to promoting faith-based programming and wholesome family entertainment."

Cameron Bure noted that her former network, Hallmark, has undergone significant changes since she first joined, largely due to a shift in leadership. Specifically, she was referring to the departure of president Bill Abbott in 2020 following the controversy surrounding the removal of an ad featuring a same-sex couple. Abbott has since taken on the role of president and CEO at Great American Media.

Shortly after Cameron Bure's comments on GAF's "traditional" content, Sweetin, who has also appeared in numerous Hallmark films, took to social media to show her support for the LGBTQIA+ community. She shared several clips advocating for the Respect for Marriage Act, a legislation that protects the marriages of same-sex and interracial couples. On her Instagram Story, she reminded her followers about the upcoming legislations in the Senate and encouraged them to contact their senators and vote in favor of the act. Another clip from GLAAD reinforced her message. (The act was signed into law in December 2022.)

In the next month, Sweetin opened up about her active involvement in public activism during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. She expressed, "I have consistently been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ communities and Black Lives Matter. I have always fought for equality and love for all individuals. I believe that if you possess a voice and a platform, it is your responsibility to speak up and utilize it, regardless of whether or not it is well-received."

Furthermore, she emphasized, "I wholeheartedly love and support my LGBTQ siblings. They are extraordinary individuals and part of an incredible community. I have immense admiration for them."
